No matter the cause, I can always count on my colleagues at our Perficient Charlotte office to pitch in for any volunteer opportunities that come our way.
One of our most recent community initiatives involved sorting hundreds of boxes of school supplies that were donated by local businesses and individuals. Local station WSOC-TV collected the supplies and the items were then distributed by Classroom Central, a non-profit charity that equips low-income students to effectively learn. Classroom Central serves more than 100,000 students in more than 200 local schools by collecting and distributing free school supplies.
I joined colleague Rachel Brazda, a business consultant, and we helped sort paper, notebooks, folders, pens, pencils, markers, crayons, glue, scissors, backpacks, and many other items to equip students in need throughout the school year.
It was a really fun event at the local station. We got to meet other community members. It was our first time volunteering for this event, and I look forward to participating again next year.
