I first heard about Soles4Souls through a social media post from a friend who works at Brighton, a retail store that has a shoe collection bin.
Soles4Souls advances its anti-poverty mission by collecting new and used shoes and distributing them to people in need to create jobs in poor and disadvantaged communities. The organization has distributed more than 30 million pairs of shoes to people in 127 countries.
I looked further into the mission of this charity and how the simple act of cleaning out some shoes we don’t wear could have an impact in the world. After learning more, I knew I wanted to do my part and help out.
My colleagues in the Perficient Charlotte office are always willing to support philanthropic efforts, so I reached out to them to join me. I thought this would be a fun and easy opportunity for our office to participate in a global charity. We set out boxes in the office (pictured above) for the donation drive. I had several co-workers bring in bags of shoes and one that had a whole trunk full (pictured below on the driveway).
In the end, we reached our goal of donating 100 pairs. I’m extremely pleased with the support and participation from my co-workers on this charity, and I look forward to finding other ways we can help both locally and globally.
