IBM introduces new features for SmartCloud for Social Business

On Monday (13th December 2014) IBM released an update to SmartCloud for Social Business with a focus on improving the Meetings and Chat User Interface. The new capabilities are available to SmartCloud Engage and SmartCloud Connections subscribers.

The simplified interface is intended to be consistent across rich clients, browsers and mobile applications.

Some highlights include:

• A new modern look to meetings
• The ability to drag files from your computer directly into a meeting
• The Mac client for meetings now has a native plug-in for screen sharing
• You can now take and send a screen capture with Chat
• Chat now allows you to transfer files

New features have also been added to SmartCloud Docs, including:

• Presentations supports AirPlay® Mirroring and dual-screen projection. While your audience sees the full-screen slide show, you can see the slide show, speaker notes, timer, and annotation tool on your iPad®.
• Import and export .xslx and .pptx files
• In spreadsheets, customize the look of new or existing charts, and edit chart data ranges without going back to the sheet

Some of these features have been available as part of SameTime and competitive offerings from other firms. I for one find these enhancements demonstrate that IBM is serious about social business, particularly in an enterprise context.
