Solving Emergency Room Wait-Time Angst

Microsoft’s Dr Bill Crounse (@MicrosoftMD) has a weekly online show “Health Tech Today” featuring innovative Healthcare solutions enabled by technology.

The most recent episode included the video below demonstrating how a hospital can leverage information from their EMR to help to provide information to patients on their expected Emergency Room wait-time. This is currently in use in Washington Hospital Medical Center in Washington DC.

Patient-Friendly Apps (Video)

Patients want information but hospital staff are often too busy to answer questions. Microsoft researchers are developing new ways to deliver real-time, patient-friendly information.

In a similar vein, the Perficient team has been working on an ED Wait-Time mobile solution leveraging Microsoft’s Windows Azure cloud platform. If you’d like to learn more please stop by booth 3681 at HIMSS.

What do you think about solutions like this that provide more information to consumers as they increasingly take a role as participants in their health care?
