A lifelong Chicago Cubs fan, Priyal Patel was ecstatic when the team won Game 5 of the World Series.
“I was born and raised a Northsider, so the Cubs have been a part of my upbringing,” she said.
Many special moments in her life have happened within the Friendly Confines, and Sunday night brought yet another. As fans were leaving the stadium after the game, her boyfriend, Joe Czerniak, got down on one knee and proposed. Priyal said, “yes.”
The proposal gained the attention of many local and national media outlets, from the Chicago Sun-Times to ESPN.
Priyal, a consultant and senior solutions architect in our Healthcare practice, said they’ve been surprised by the amount of coverage.
“It’s been something else – getting calls and texts from so many people letting us know that we are on the news and in the paper, and on top of it our friends and family are tagging it and putting it on social media. It’s fun and very much unexpected, but what a nice way to document the memory.”
Wedding plans aren’t in the works just yet. For now, the couple is completely focused on Game 7.
“Chicago Cubs fans are ride or die, and it is special to be a part of such an unspoken bond among each other and the city,” Priyal said.
Amid all the excitement, she’s still processing the fact that she’s engaged.
“I don’t even know what that really means let alone what goes into planning a wedding,” she said. “If it’s like planning a client project and I can bring in a few of our solution and data architects, I may be OK.”
