What’s new in Jive5?

Jive5 is getting baked and will be GA in a month or so.  Historically, I have seen Jive driven by the agency segment as they have had past big wins in the social media management domain.  In Jive5 they have grabbed my attention – this release is a game-changer in enterprise social business software.  What is Jive?  Jive is a leader in social business software and was named such by Gartner in 2010 for Externally Facing Social Business Software.

Jive5 brings to the table some serious tools that companies looking to build or enable an innovative and social businesses.  First off they have updated their UI to a stellar out of box experience.    Add to that some great tools to add gas to an already fast burning fire called collaboration and innovation.  Tools like:

  • twitter-like activity stream which is 100% filterable and editable.
  • a social equity component to relates information and networks to you
  • idea generation and management
  • MS Office Connector
  • any-device mobile support (iPhone, Android, iPad, mobile web, etc)
  • Robust App developer and marketplace (vetted by Jive) – like Tungle.me and Gliffy
  • IM platform integration
  • Messaging within the platform
  • Much more
  • Social Engagement plugin

Jive provides a nice set of APIs to integrating it into other applications or websites are easy.  The concept of extending the platform with apps is the shining star from a feature set like the Office Connector which allows users to simultaneously work on a document/spreadsheet/whatever together while assigning roles to sections and so on.  Each MS Office save pushes a version back to Jive Files.  The integration of IM clients like Sametime is a nice add.  I like that you can message someone similar to what you do in Facebook and the ability to @mention someone/doc/community/forum/whatever is slick and again intuitive from what we might be using everyday.

To close if I had a Jonathan Magic Quadrant, I would put Jive in the leader category based on its maturity and full feature set that surpasses what others in the category are missing.  If you are looking for a Jive 5 demo or more information you can email me or contact Jive directly.  If it wasn’t on your list, it should be now.
