Meet Erin Zapata, a Practice Director based in Chicago, Illinois, whose empowering leadership and commitment to professional development have made a difference for Perficient’s Microsoft Business Unit (BU). As a member of Perficient’s Women in Technology (WiT) Employee Resource Group (ERG), Erin is dedicated to creating a supportive and inclusive workplace that fosters meaningful connections. With her exceptional skills in team management and project delivery, she champions client success and encourages a collaborative spirit that inspires those around her

In this People of Perficient profile, we’ll explore Erin’s expertise, passion for continuous learning, and remarkable career journey over the past 13 years at Perficient.

What is your role? Describe a typical day in the life.

I began my career with Perficient as a Senior Technical Consultant after a decade at a large consulting firm. Over the years, I progressed through various levels. About four years ago, I was promoted to Delivery Director. Most recently, I have taken on the role of Practice Director of Modern Work and Security. At each stage, I felt prepared and empowered to embrace new responsibilities, thanks to the invaluable lessons learned along the way. Every engagement, pursuit, and customer interaction has imparted knowledge that I carry forward into each new initiative.

As a Practice Director, I have a handful of responsibilities in various areas. I work with my team to develop, modify, and execute the strategic vision for our Microsoft Modern Work and Security practices. I support with aligning the vision with business goals and market trends, while monitoring revenue and utilization. I oversee the project delivery of solutions, acting as a point of escalation for both internal and customer issues. From a team management perspective, I provide guidance to a team of skilled directors, consultants, architects, and developers. Lastly, I support pre-sales activities, collaborate with sales and marketing teams, and help pursuit teams through the sales cycle.

How do you explain your job to family, friends, or children?

When asked, “What do you do?” I typically say, “I help our sales organization sell Microsoft solutions, and our team helps our customers roll out Microsoft capabilities like Teams and SharePoint to their organizations.”

Whether big or small, how do you make a difference for our clients, colleagues, communities, or teams?

One of the most rewarding aspects of my role is fostering an environment where my team members can thrive. I am committed to ensuring that they are engaged in meaningful and enjoyable work, feel valued for their contributions, and receive the support they need to succeed. Their well-being and professional satisfaction are paramount, and I am dedicated to being their advocate.

What are your proudest accomplishments, personally and professionally? Any milestone moments at Perficient?

Personally, my greatest achievement is undoubtedly my children, of whom I am immensely proud. Family is always my top priority, and their well-being and happiness are essential.

Professionally, my most significant achievement was the successful delivery of an application for an exceptionally challenging project with 86 consultants in 11 different BUs. I am incredibly proud of our consultants for going live with this application. It was a remarkable demonstration of Perficient’s collaboration and dedication, which showcased our commitment to excellence even in the face of daunting circumstances.

Recognizing those who make a meaningful difference in the technology space is important, and today, we’re proud to celebrate three colleagues who have recently been named to CRN’s prestigious 2025 Women of the Channel list!

CRN, a brand of The Channel Company, annually highlights influential women in technology who accelerate strategic growth for our partners in the channel, inspire change across industries and functions, and achieve significant impact around the globe.

Congratulations to Liza Sisler, Kyla Faust, and Rachel Jones, for their esteemed achievement as Women of the Channel, which speaks to their commitment to strengthening Perficient’s presence in the channel, fostering leadership and inclusion in the tech industry, and boldly advancing our business. Continue reading to learn more about their unique contributions and how they are paving the way for our partners’ success.

Celebrating Liza Sisler, Global Director of Partner Marketing, Alliances and Programs

With more than 25 years of experience in the technology consulting industry, and 15 years in leadership positions, Liza Sisler brings a wealth of expertise to her role as Director for our global partner and alliances programs. She leads a talented team of approximately 16 colleagues focused on alliance management, partner marketing, and partner programs support. Our colleagues collaborate with Perficient’s strategic partners to deliver innovative solutions that help clients accelerate time to market, enhance consumer experiences, and stay ahead of the competition.

“Maintaining mutually beneficial relationships with our partners is a critical component of Perficient’s business, and I take pride in leading this team of exceptional colleagues tasked with executing this challenge,” said Liza. “Having a centralized partner team allows us to quickly respond to partner needs, and enables us to pivot as market conditions and priorities change especially as we enter an AI-first era. This agility helps us quickly launch new partner offers and compelling events, enhancing our relationships with partners who may not be able to adapt as rapidly.”

Under Liza’s leadership, our partner program has evolved to prioritize high-impact relationships backed by executive alignment and shared business goals. Perficient’s four-pillar approach spans alliance management, partner-programs support, channel marketing, and field marketing. Beyond strategy, Liza fosters a collaborative, growth-oriented environment that not only supports career development for her team but also strengthens Perficient’s ability to deliver value through trusted, mutually beneficial partnerships.

“The environment we’ve created allows us to grow colleagues’ careers and foster a sense of community where colleagues can share and learn from each other,” said Liza. “I built out the team to streamline our approach, focusing on activities that most effectively drive our business forward while keeping partner imperatives front and center. This included facilitating standardized plans, approach, enablement, and best practices. Additionally, I developed new engagement models to track partner engagement, taking a data-driven, long-term approach to engagement and loyalty programs.”

In addition, Liza also made CRN’s Power 80 Solution Provider list, which recognizes remarkable leaders who develop innovative strategies that enhance business outcomes for their solution provider organizations and drive success across the entire channel ecosystem.

With more than 7,000 colleagues spanning technologies and time zones, Perficient constantly pursues progress centered around Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB). The feedback our colleagues share through Perficient’s annual Employee Engagement Survey provides insight into the colleague experience that helps us continue to build an award-winning culture where everyone can thrive. Perficient partners with Perceptyx, an independent analytics firm, to facilitate the survey and ensure actionable, transparent insights.

Each year, Perceptyx hosts the EX Impact Awards to honor organizations that leverage its platform to uncover critical insights, take meaningful action, and elevate the colleague experience. We’re thrilled to announce that Perficient was recently recognized with a 2025 EX Impact Award in the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) category.

Our recognition underscores Perficient’s success in transforming feedback into impactful initiatives that resonate across its global workforce, and our dedication to fostering a workplace where every colleague feels heard, valued, and supported.

To celebrate this incredible achievement, Perceptyx hosted a virtual panel discussion on Tuesday, April 15, featuring representatives from global companies who received a 2025 EX Impact Award. Our colleague, Felipe Garzon Correa, talent development specialist, Colombia, participated as a panel member, sharing how Perficient uncovered key insights and accelerated growth for our colleagues through our Employee Resource Groups (ERGs).

“Our ERGs reflect the incredible sense of belonging of our global Perficient family, but at their core, it’s all about our people, people who are making a difference in their communities and across borders every day,” said Felipe Garzon Correa, Talent Development Specialist, Colombia. “Together, we’re not just a company; we’re a worldwide network united by impact, driven by outcomes, and committed to shaping a brighter future for everyone.”

Balance Like a Pro: How to Prioritize and Stay in Control, a Conversation with Lina Jaramillo https://blogs.perficient.com/2025/02/05/balance-like-a-pro-how-to-prioritize-and-stay-in-control/ https://blogs.perficient.com/2025/02/05/balance-like-a-pro-how-to-prioritize-and-stay-in-control/#respond Wed, 05 Feb 2025 14:04:39 +0000 https://blogs.perficient.com/?p=376936

In today’s fast-paced world, achieving balance in life often feels like an elusive goal. We find ourselves juggling multiple responsibilities—work, family, relationships, and personal growth—while constantly seeking a sense of stability. To explore this topic, we had an insightful conversation with Lina Jaramillo, General Manager for Perficient in Colombia, who shared her perspective on balance, emotional intelligence, and the power of clear communication.

Redefining Balance: It’s Not About Splitting Time Equally

One of the key takeaways from our conversation with Lina was her refreshing perspective on balance. She emphasized that balance is not about dedicating equal amounts of time to every aspect of life but rather investing the necessary time in each area when it matters the most. Instead of feeling overwhelmed when things seem out of sync, we should step back and reflect: What is truly happening right now? What needs my attention the most?

Sometimes, we fail to set clear expectations with others regarding what they can and cannot expect from us. Lina highlighted how openly communicating our priorities allows us to create a sense of harmony, even in chaotic situations. Whether it’s family, work, or personal well-being, being transparent with those around us can help ease stress and prevent misunderstandings.

Emotional Intelligence: The Key to Managing Priorities

A significant part of maintaining balance comes down to emotional intelligence—the ability to recognize, understand, and manage our emotions effectively. Lina pointed out that women, in particular, have a strong sense of foresight, which can be a powerful tool if used correctly. However, this same foresight can sometimes lead to unnecessary anxiety or overthinking. The key is to develop emotional intelligence to prevent emotions from becoming overwhelming obstacles.

Lina shared a deeply personal experience about supporting her family through a difficult time when her brother was ill. She found herself being the pillar for everyone around her. During this period, she realized the importance of setting clear expectations with her work, her partner, and even her son. Communicating openly about her priorities allowed her to navigate a challenging situation without feeling completely overwhelmed.

Her experience underscores a crucial lesson: balance isn’t static. There will be moments when work requires more attention and others when family must come first. The important thing is to acknowledge these shifts and communicate them effectively to those around us.

The Power of Clear Communication

One of the most striking points Lina made was the impact of clear and proactive communication. She shared an example from a book (possibly The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People) where a man faced a dilemma between prioritizing an important work project and celebrating his anniversary with his wife. The lesson? If both his employer and his wife had a clear understanding of his priorities beforehand, making that decision would have been much easier.

Lina emphasized that when we clearly define our priorities and communicate them to the people around us—whether at work or in personal relationships—it removes unnecessary stress. Instead of constantly feeling torn between obligations, we can stand firm in our decisions, knowing that those around us understand our commitments. This alignment creates trust, reduces guilt, and leads to a more harmonious life.

Developing Emotional Intelligence: A Lifelong Journey

Emotional intelligence is not something we are simply born with—it is a skill that we can develop through practice, education, and self-awareness. Lina pointed out that, unlike IQ, which remains relatively stable, emotional intelligence can be cultivated through deliberate effort.

This development requires:

  • Self-awareness: Understanding our emotions and their triggers.
  • Self-regulation: Managing our emotions effectively instead of letting them control us.
  • Empathy: Recognizing and understanding the emotions of others.
  • Communication: Expressing our needs and expectations clearly.

Lina also highlighted the importance of taking care of our physical and mental well-being as part of emotional intelligence. Getting enough sleep, exercising, and setting aside time for self-care are essential habits that contribute to a balanced life. Our bodies and minds are interconnected—when we neglect one, the other suffers as well.

Final Thoughts: Achieving Balance Through Awareness and Communication

Our conversation with Lina Jaramillo offered valuable insights into finding balance in a world that constantly demands our attention. The key takeaway? Balance is not about dividing our time equally but about investing our energy where it is needed most at any given moment. Through emotional intelligence, clear communication, and self-awareness, we can navigate life’s challenges with greater ease and confidence.

By defining our priorities, being transparent with those around us, and actively developing our emotional intelligence, we can create a more fulfilling and harmonious life. The journey to balance is ongoing, but with the right mindset and strategies, it is entirely achievable.

Stay Safe Online – Cybersecurity Awareness Session by WIT India https://blogs.perficient.com/2025/01/21/stay-safe-online-cybersecurity-awareness-session-by-wit-india/ https://blogs.perficient.com/2025/01/21/stay-safe-online-cybersecurity-awareness-session-by-wit-india/#respond Tue, 21 Jan 2025 09:14:45 +0000 https://blogs.perficient.com/?p=375423

It’s a need of the hour and the topic of discussion – How to stay safe online. Promptly, Cybersecurity Awareness session was hosted by WIT, India. The speaker of the day is Sanjana Rathi, Cyber security specialist. She shared her wisdom on Cybercrimes, preventive measures and practical solutions to the problems.
In this blog the victim is called Mr. David and Scamster/Predator is called Goliath.

The mobile number magic
We tend to be free with our Phone number and basic details and while billing in a hotel, service provider, coupons for Free raffles, we tend to share the number for free without thinking much on the consequences. There are no proper policies with the application to guard our data and hence it gets leaked to the predators who are waiting for an opportunity to prey on us.

Call forwarding scam:
Mr. David was approached by Goliath asking him to dial few numbers and at that time David was unaware, call forwarding would be activated in his mobile and his data would be stolen, As the call forwarding is activated in his mobile and Goliath used WhatsApp for Business installed newly in his phone and messaged his contacts asking for money. Few people got scammed and others reached out to this Mr. Dávid and only then he was aware he and his friends were under cyberattack.

Cyber security:
“Cyber security is about being aware and takes lots of practice to stay safe from Scammers”.
There are lot of challenges in the digital era. We tend to agree to Application license without going through the documentation granting them access for our personal data such as Contacts, Photos, location and much more.

Types of Cyberthreats:
Cyber threats are classified majorly into four categories.
• Malware
• Phishing
• Ransomware
• DDos attacks

Phishing:
Goliath uses social engineering tactics to send you link, we are prompted to download link/ respond to a mail or pay our utility bills using the link. Once we click it by mistake, we would be routed to a fake website asking us for our bank details and we would be scammed.

Voice cloning/Face cloning in Ransomware:
Cyber Crime tools using AI, Metaverse – predators use Voice cloning/Face cloning asking for money transfer. A businessman’s secretary was asked by a man pretending to be his boss asking for money transfer through voice call. The secretary was vigilant and as the ransomware amount was huge. He did reach out to his boss and found out it was a fake Request. If at all he wasn’t careful, they would have got scammed.

Data Hygiene:
Data Hygiene is important while we look out to buy new electronic devices and haul away the older ones. Some of the suggestions to be practiced are,

  • Get a phone/system from a credible source.
  • For Important data, have cloud storage and backup.
  • Reg the Disposal of the data regarding the resell of phone, degaussing of data must be done to erase/dispose the data in the Mobiles/Systems.
  • Cyber criminals make use of E-waste from foreign nations. They look in for the Recycle bin of the systems for data.
  • Always be cautious and verify before taking a step for transaction.

UPI Fraud:
• RBI regulations – on the first transaction, Report the crime on time by calling 1093 (Cybercrime helpline) – 4 hours within the incident and contacted the bank to freeze the account. Report to the ombudsman. It’s likely the bank has to refund the amount.
“Scamsters fuel on the fear of the Victim to prey on them”

Digital Arrest:
The recent day scam is as follows, At midnight, Mr. David got a call from Goliath impersonating that he is a Customs officer calling to say that Mr. David has sent a Package which contains a Illegal item distant nation. The call gets connected to the Police Commissioner where they asked Mr. David is enquired on video call and team member of Goliath’s impersonate as police commissioner with the whole setup uniform and background and prey on the fear of David.

Mr. David is asked to Withdraw a huge amount of money from the bank. The bank employees found Mr. David acting weird and trying to close a huge amount of his savings in short notice. Meanwhile Goliath’s team would stay on call while Mr. David was at the bank. After multiple counselling by Banker and his trustworthy nature, David agreed that he was victimized and hence the scam is avoided.

Cyber security measures at Perficient:
ISMS awareness month is celebrated every year with various interesting games in order to educate and make us aware on the Domain spooking, different threats and solutions, Various mails been shared to us regarding the Do’s and Don’ts of using Perficient email and password management.

Conclusion:
With the advancement in AI, metaverse and Technology, Team of Goliaths comes up with various scams. They even use books like How to win friends and influence people by Dale Carenidge in order to trick people in liking them and to eventually scam them. We cannot eradicate cybercrimes completely. The best thing we can do is be aware of the ongoing scams and follow the safe practices in daily life. Staying cautious and vigilant and best practices will save us from cybercrime.

Alongside guiding my team, I actively engage in development. Whether building features based on requirements, creating custom modules, or resolving critical issues, I’m committed to ensuring smooth, scalable implementations. Coding is a significant part of my role, and I oversee the technical aspects through code reviews, troubleshooting, and solution design to maintain high-quality deliverables. I collaborate closely with project team members to ensure seamless coordination. I also work with senior colleagues and experts, constantly learning from them to enhance my skills. Since our projects often involve international teams, I regularly work with people from different cities and countries to meet shared objectives.

Beyond project responsibilities, I actively engage in Sitecore BU-level and office activities, such as conducting interviews, leading knowledge-sharing sessions, and participating in fun activities that foster both personal growth and team spirit.

In 2017, I started my career with Perficient as an intern after graduating from college. Perficient has played a pivotal role in shaping the professional I am today. All the technology skills I’ve developed have stemmed from the projects I’ve tackled and the talented people I’ve collaborated with. This journey from intern to Lead Technical Consultant has been both rewarding and gratifying, filled with valuable learning experiences every step of the way.

One of my proudest accomplishments has been speaking at two Sitecore User Group Conferences India (SUGCON) in 2023 and 2024 alongside my colleague and mentor. It was a thrilling experience that allowed me to share knowledge with the community, connect with other experts, and represent Perficient in the Indian Sitecore community.

I have also earned three Sitecore certifications: .NET 10 Developer, XM Cloud, and OrderCloud Developer. This strengthened my technical expertise and enabled me to take on more complex challenges. A particularly proud moment was being recognized as a Perficient 2024 Excellence Award winner, a huge honor that acknowledged my hard work and contributions.

What has your experience at Perficient taught you?

Meet Samantha Ziegel, Solutions Architect, Salesforce

With Perficient’s Growth for Everyone initiative, we’re enabling colleague career development while celebrating the individual and collective success of our people. As a strong leader in the Salesforce Business Unit (BU) Samantha Ziegel is paving the way for exponential growth in Perficient’s Salesforce Data Cloud and Einstein AI offerings in her role as a solutions architect.

She embraces the study and adoption of AI tools within the Salesforce ecosystem, while also serving as a platform lead for Perficient’s Salesforce data cloud and Einstein AI solution sets. Samantha is an active member of Perficient’s Women in Technology Employee Resource Group (ERG) and Generative AI Lab, an advocate for working moms, and a collaborative team player who drives positive change throughout Perficient and beyond.

Most recently, she was honored as a CEO Selection award winner for the 2024 Excellence Awards – Perficient’s most prestigious awards recognizing distinguished colleagues who make a difference and embrace our core values.

Continue reading to learn more about Samantha’s unique career path, her thought leadership in the Salesforce BU and Generative AI space, and how she is paving the way for future women leaders in technology.

Samantha’s Career Journey: A Passion for Healthcare and Technology

As a solutions architect, Samantha plays a pivotal role in bridging the gap between business needs and technical solutions. She wears many hats with her experience spanning industries and technologies. While her career journey is anything but traditional, Samantha’s unique blend of professional expertise provides the versatility and insight to effectively propel her career forward.

Samantha began her journey in healthcare when she worked in patient care across hospitals, rehabilitation clinics, and long-term care facilities. “I have not had a straight-line career path by any means,” said Samantha. “I was exploring going into nursing, but I switched because I wanted to focus more on the business side of healthcare once I discovered that was a really exciting and challenging space to be in.”

Driven by a strong desire to make a broad impact, Samantha pursued an undergraduate degree in public health. This enabled her to understand the intersection of healthcare, business processes, communication, and policy, gaining valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities faced by communities and healthcare organizations.

Transitioning From Healthcare Operations to IT Consulting

After working in healthcare operations, sales, and marketing for several years, in 2012, Samantha made the leap to technology. With the prevalence of technology, the ever-changing landscape intrigued her. She saw it as an opportunity to consistently challenge herself by learning new concepts.

Recognizing the growing importance of technology, she attended Emory University in 2019 and graduated with a master’s degree in informatics. Her continued educational growth better equipped her with the technical and business process skills necessary to be the epitome “translator” between business and technology.

With a decade of experience in healthcare IT, Samantha’s deep understanding of the clinical and business aspects of healthcare, combined with her technical expertise, makes her an asset in the IT consulting industry.

Building Future Leaders Through Women in Technology

Samantha’s drive to build relationships and discover more about technology led her to join Women in Technology (WiT), a large organization in Atlanta, Georgia with great support programs for networking with like-minded professionals.

She challenged herself to understand three key questions:

  • What does it take to be successful?
  • What does success look like?
  • What are the different options for career pathing?

“I started volunteering with Women in Technology to help build programs for grade school, high school, and college students, specifically for young women considering getting into STEM,” said Samantha. “I helped lead some efforts there, including hosting and planning events and sitting on panels. Through that process, I started developing a network of women in tech, and I saw women in leadership roles that were not always previously visible.”

In 2019, in relocating from Georgia to Illinois, Samantha joined Perficient as a Senior Business Consultant working remotely for Adobe out of the Ohio BU. She began volunteering with Perficient’s Women in Technology ERG and saw a unique space to contribute to a topic that she is passionate about, supporting working moms.

“There are different needs at every stage of parenthood, whether it’s physical or emotional support or career advice.” said Samantha. “You’re going to need to be present as a working parent in different ways, and it’s nice to have leaders who can empathize with the unknown and trust that you understand what’s expected of you at work. Sometimes that is not clear at every organization, but at Perficient, it’s very clear.”

Exploring Life at Perficient and the Salesforce BU

Through her involvement in Perficient’s Women in Technology ERG, and desire to continue learning, Samantha made connections and started exploring additional opportunities at Perficient. After working on a Salesforce project, she saw an opportunity to grow and made the transition from the Ohio BU working with the Adobe platform to the Salesforce BU in January 2022.

Over the course of a few months, I was able to transition to the Salesforce BU just before welcoming our second child,” said Samantha. “I chose to move to the Salesforce BU primarily because of the leaders and the team members. I’ve always been interested in learning the Salesforce technology. My varied background in working with different technical stacks, I was confident in transitioning to learn a new platform and talk with our developers about realistic solutions.”

She was promoted from Senior Business Consultant to Lead Business Consultant in 2023. Soon, she also raised her hand to spearhead the development of go-to-market materials for the sales and delivery teams supporting and selling Salesforce products, specifically Data Cloud and Einstein AI. As a Platform Lead for Perficient’s Data Cloud and Einstein AI team, Samantha collaborates closely with teams across the company to develop effective go-to-market sales materials and ensure that Perficient is consistently utilizing best practices for Salesforce’s innovative data and AI products.

In April 2024, she formally transitioned into her current role as a Solutions Architect (SA), where she guides clients through designing and implementing tailored technology solutions that align with their specific business needs. As an SA, she translates business requirements to technical speak, and then into terms that resonate with a broader audience. Whether it is an end user, a product owner on the client side, or an executive stakeholder, Samantha ensures that all business goals and organizational requirements are met.

“What keeps me at Perficient is the people and the leadership,” said Samantha. “Specifically in our Salesforce practice, we have many female leaders who are visible, which is outstanding. Many of our leaders are working parents, enabling me to feel fully supported as a working mom. I have the autonomy to get my work done while balancing work and life accordingly.”

Taking Charge: Innovation in AI and Cyber Security

With a keen interest in AI dating back to her master’s program at Emory University, Samantha has been at the forefront of AI innovation since the emergence of generative AI tools. “When ChatGPT opened up Generative AI to the masses in 2022, it really caught my attention,” said Samantha. “I am what you would call an insatiable learner. I always find myself diving into the next big technology by really understanding, “How do these cogwheels work, and how was this machine built? How are we going to implement it?”’

Her interest in AI has led her to join Perficient’s Generative AI Innovation Group, where she collaborated with other team members to understand more about AI and Perficient’s strategic position on this technology. Samantha plays a crucial role in spearheading and writing our corporate AI policy, developing new processes, and supporting the Generative AI Innovation Lab.

Additionally, she serves as an AI Steering Committee Representative, ensuring that all AI projects align with Perficient’s standards and ethical guidelines. “I feel like Perficient is positioning the company really well to play responsibly with an innovative approach in the AI space,” said Samantha. “We’re starting to put these guardrails, policies, and workflows into play, and I’m excited to be a part of it.”

Samantha’s Career Advice

Check out Samantha’s advice on growing your career, being a working mom, and taking the initiative.

It takes a village. Whether it’s AI, being a parent, or being a working parent, you shouldn’t have to do it alone. There’s no way you’re going to know everything, and you need to surround yourself with people who support and believe in you.

Raise your hand early and often. When you do this and an opportunity comes up, your name is already on the roster. Don’t wait for somebody to take your hand and move you to the next level or give you the next cool thing to work on. You need to say clearly and consistently what it is you want to do, and why, to the right people and not just one time.

Break down societal norms and change your mentality. Traditionally, women often have to prove themselves more than men. There’s still a bit of this mentality where women feel that they must prove themselves before asking for or expecting something. It’s partially in your own head. You’ve told yourself you have to prove yourself, or society has set these norms. But now is the time that these stereotypes and self-limiting beliefs are starting to break down, and we can start to change our mindset. This can apply both at home and at work. Feeling like your duties as a working mom are unbalanced with your partner’s? Let’s start breaking down those norms together, making way for a more balanced future for our children.

Setting An Example for Aspiring Technologists

Samantha’s career journey is a testament to her exceptional technical skills, unwavering passion for technology, and her commitment to driving innovation around the world. Her leadership and dedication to using new technology to solve real-world problems make her an incredible asset to Perficient, valuable and trusted team player for her colleagues, and role model for aspiring technologists globally.

Samantha’s expertise and passion for innovation continues to shine, and her contributions will enable Perficient to forge the future ahead as a reliable digital partner. Her dedication to using strategy to streamline our processes makes a difference and serves as an inspiration to leaders around the world.

Perficient is happy to announce that Consulting Magazine recently recognized Rupa Amin and Lina Maria Jaramillo Lopera in the 2024 Women Leaders in Consulting Awards. The awards program seeks to recognize women within the consulting industry who demonstrate excellence in their work and who are making an impact. Rupa and Lina were chosen because they embody the characteristics and leadership qualities that make a difference in the industry and pave the way for future women leaders.

Rupa and Lina join a prestigious group of Perficient colleagues who have been awarded by Consulting Magazine. Erin Rushman and Kim Williams-Czopek were recognized last year for Excellence in Leadership, and Mary-Beth Ostasz and Erin Moloney have also been awarded in previous years. We are proud to have the best and brightest people at Perficient, and this honor shows how colleagues like Rupa and Lina bring an unmatched level of dedication, drive, and passion to their work, and it’s helping forge a brighter future for all.

Lina was selected as one of the recipients in the “Mentor of the Year” category, and Rupa was selected in the “Excellence in Client Service” category. Let’s hear from each of them about what receiving this award means to them, insights from their career experience, and advice they have to offer.

Congratulations to you both on this recognition! I’d like to start by talking about the award itself. What does this recognition mean to you?Lina Maria Jaramillo Lopera

Lina Maria Jaramillo Lopera, General Manager, Colombia: I am honored to be recognized by Consulting Magazine as a Woman Leader in Consulting. This recognition is a milestone in my career, representing the many years of research, learning, and introspection that has led me to where I am today. I place a big priority on mentoring my team. I’ve found that the best way to make a difference for them is by putting my experience and knowledge into practice and helping the team grow. This award is a great recognition not only to myself but to all the Perficient colleagues who have placed their trust in me to guide them on their journey, whether it be with their work, their personal lives, or their professional development.

Rupa Amin V2

Rupa Amin, Director, Commerce: I am deeply honored to be recognized as a Woman Leader in Consulting. This award is more than an accolade for me; it is a profound source of pride that inspires me to continue striving for excellence. It motivates me to make a meaningful difference for my team, my peers, and my clients.

Being recognized for my contributions as a female leader, both within and beyond Perficient, is a significant milestone for me. This honor symbolizes not only my personal achievements but also the progress of women in consulting for their expertise and impact in the industry, giving me a great sense of pride.

Lina, being recognized as a “Mentor of the Year” is quite the accomplishment. Can you share more about your experience as a mentor?

Lina: Thank you. I practice leading by example by being an approachable mentor guided by purpose, empathy, and confidence to empower others to do their best. I believe in Perficient’s people-first culture and maintain open communication with all of my colleagues.

I’ve always been committed to sharing my knowledge with others so that they feel empowered to be their best. To achieve this, I’ve had to overcome many challenges. These experiences have influenced how I lead and mentor others. I’ve learned that when I lead by example incorporating integrity, patience, empathy, and love into my everyday interactions, my team will do the same and influence positive change.

It has been a challenge to play different roles, continue to grow professionally, act as a mentor to my colleagues, and be a mother. However, it all comes down to work-life balance and prioritization. Perficient has given me the resources and infrastructure to achieve that balance.

As a recipient of the “Excellence in Client Service” award, I would love to hear more about your focus on clients, Rupa. How do you enable client success?

Rupa: Thank you, Carolyn. With over 20 years of experience in IT and e-commerce research, I bring a diverse skill set to support my team and clients. I focus on enabling client success by customizing strategies to align with their business models and prioritizing industry partnerships. My goal is to bridge knowledge, technology, and process gaps, strengthening the relationship between Perficient and its network of partners.

I believe in actively listening to clients’ challenges, understanding their concerns, and familiarizing myself with their competition. Priority is deeply understanding each client’s unique goals and challenges by asking the right questions to uncover their true needs. Regular and transparent communication is crucial. I keep clients informed about progress, potential issues, and upcoming milestones, ensuring there are no surprises. Every client is different, so I customize the approach to fit their specific requirements. This might involve bespoke strategies, personalized advice, or unique solutions that align with their objectives.

Trust and rapport are the foundation of any successful client relationship. I invest time in building strong, long-term relationships based on mutual respect and understanding. I constantly seek feedback and look for ways to improve my service. This helps me stay aligned with client expectations and adapt to their evolving needs. I believe in empowering clients by providing them with the knowledge and tools they need to succeed. This could be through training sessions, resource sharing, or ongoing support.

By focusing on these principles, I aim to create a positive and productive experience for my clients, ultimately enabling their success. Leveraging these strategies, I guide my team to address these issues effectively. Ensuring clients feel comfortable and at ease is crucial to fostering a positive and productive experience.

What’s the best advice – consulting or otherwise – you’ve ever received?

Lina: I have received two great pieces of advice that have resonated with me throughout my career. The first came from my mother, who said, “You are the owner of your future, you build it.” That taught me that I’m in the driver’s seat of my personal and professional life. I can’t put that responsibility on anyone else but me.

The second piece advice that has influenced me came from my best friend, who said, “Life is a continuous search for meaning.” Her words have taught me to live my life guided by principles that drive me, to live with purpose – a purpose that’s bigger than myself.

Rupa: The best advice I have ever received, particularly relevant in the consulting field, is, “Read the room, and be ready to pivot with confidence.” This advice encapsulates two critical skills: perception and adaptability.

Perception, or reading the room, refers to the ability to gauge the dynamics of a situation, understand the perspectives of others, and adjust one’s approach accordingly. In consulting, this could mean discerning a client’s unspoken needs, recognizing the team’s morale, or identifying shifts in the industry. It’s about being attuned to the subtleties and nuances that can make a significant difference in how we communicate and collaborate.

Adaptability, or pivoting with confidence, is also key. The world of consulting is fast-paced and ever-changing. The ability to adapt to change and alter the course of action is invaluable. It’s not just about changing direction, but it is doing so confidently. This means not just reacting to change, but embracing, leveraging, and leading through it.

This advice has been a guiding principle in my professional journey. It is a piece of advice that continues to resonate with me and shapes my approach to work and life. It is more than just advice – it’s a philosophy for success.

What advice would you give to a female consultant just beginning her career?

Lina: The advice I offer to women who are just starting their careers in consulting is to be confident about herself and her knowledge. The end solution we provide is defined by our expertise, experience, and how we communicate our message – not our gender, religion, or political affiliation.

Rupa: To any female consultant just starting her career, I would advise taking the time to discover your inner consultant and that you know more than you think. This emphasizes two key aspects: self-discovery and self-confidence.

Self-discovery, or discovering your inner consultant, is about understanding your unique strengths, interests, and values. As a consultant, you bring a unique perspective and set of skills to the table. Take the time to understand these and how they can add value in consulting. This could involve reflecting on past experiences, seeking feedback, or exploring new areas of interest.

Self-confidence, or understanding that you know more than you may think, is also important. Imposter syndrome can be a common challenge, especially when starting a new career. Trusting in your abilities and the knowledge you bring will take you far. Do not be afraid to voice your ideas and ask questions. Every perspective is valuable, and you have more to contribute than you might initially believe.

Perficient is proud to celebrate Lina and Rupa for this distinction from Consulting Magazine and for the incredible work they are doing to support our clients, colleagues, and business. They are shattering boundaries as difference makers in the consulting industry. You can join us in celebrating Lina and Rupa on LinkedIn!
