Global Grants Program LogoEarlier this year, the Giving ERG introduced a new way colleagues could make a difference – the Perficient Gives Global Grants Program. Through the program, colleagues around the world can nominate their favorite charitable organization to receive a one-time $5,000 donation from Perficient. Any nonprofit organization that aligns with Perficient’s corporate giving pillars – advancing STEM education and improving health and well-being – can be nominated to receive a Perficient Gives Global Grant.

Nominations were held in April, with global colleagues nominating nearly 100 wonderful global organizations, and five were selected to each receive $5,000.

Charity WaterToday, we’re proud to announce the first recipient of a Perficient Gives Global Grant – Charity: Water – which was nominated by Renu Hall, a director out of Perficient’s Houston office.

Charity: Water’s Mission and Renu’s Passion for Ending the Water Crisis

Safe drinking water is much more than a basic human need. It’s the foundation for improved health, education, and economic opportunity. Charity: Water has been on a mission since 2006 to end the global water crisis. By partnering with experienced local organizations to build sustainable, community-owned water projects, Charity: Water has connected more than 18 million people in 29 countries to clean and safe drinking water.

Renu HallFor Renu, nominating Charity: Water for a Perficient Gives Global Grant came from her own personal experiences and seeing the need firsthand.

“I have a lot of passion for that organization, and hearing that they would be receiving this donation was pretty special,” said Renu. “I was born in Tanzania and grew up in Sub-Saharan Africa before moving to India and then the U.S. So, I grew up in developing nations, and one of the biggest struggles for these countries is bare necessities: sanitation, water, food, medicine. You see the effect of that in these countries and I grew up experiencing it.”

Charity: Water works with local partners to fund water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) programs for rural communities around the world. Once a local partner has been selected, Charity: Water works with them to evaluate existing water sources, terrain, and population to ensure they are funding the most appropriate solution for each community. After construction ends, Charity: Water continues to work with their local partners to monitor, evaluate, and maintain WASH programs, ensuring that each program operates sustainably for years to come.

Renu has supported Charity: Water through her own financial donations for years and says hearing the story of Charity: Water’s founder, Scott Harrison, is one aspect that initially inspired her to get involved. She noted President Jimmy Carter’s advocacy for global health and environmental concerns as another inspiration for making a difference.

“It is distressing to see a child’s future threatened or diminished by preventable disease. The rights to health services and to safe, clean, affordable water are fundamental to a life of dignity and are protected by international law. Yet millions of people die of water-related diseases annually, and millions more suffer needlessly. None of us should turn a blind eye to the shocking consequences of inadequate access to clean water and to sanitation.”

President Jimmy Carter, as quoted in Renu’s nomination

“Charity: Water’s work has a huge impact on communities all over the world, promoting health and vitality and reducing disease and decline, in areas where Perficient employees live and work,” said Renu.

Thanks to Renu’s nomination and Charity: Water’s fundraising model, 100% of Perficient’s donation will aid in the planning and implementation of sustainable water sources in rural areas around the world.

“The U.S. dollar can go a long way in developing nations to do so much with very little. The impact you can make with those dollars in those nations is remarkable. Whole communities and whole villages can be changed,” said Renu. “Charity: Water is doing life-saving work. People die from water-borne diseases in these countries, and it’s tragic to see how the basic necessity of access to clean water could save those lives.”

Help Charity: Water Bring Clean and Safe Water to Every Person on the Planet

More than 703 million people are living without clean water. Help Charity: Water bring clean water to these affected communities by making a donation today or joining their monthly giving community, “The Spring.” Every cent funds clean water projects around the world.

Perficient’s donation to Charity: Water is the first of five we will make in the next few weeks. Stay tuned for future updates announcing the other four great organizations that are receiving a Perficient Gives Global Grant! We’re not stopping here, either. Perficient colleagues will have another opportunity to nominate their favorite charity for a Perficient Gives Global Grant later this year.

Every Perficient colleague can make a difference and help us build a brighter world for years to come. The Perficient Gives Global Grants Program is an incredible opportunity for any colleague – no matter their global location – to help pay it forward and support charitable causes.

With advanced technology and large language models shaping the future of STEM, it’s evident that Artificial Intelligence (AI) is here to stay. Perficient believes that educating the next generation of leaders about AI concepts is vital. Today, we’re thrilled to share that Perficient has received an Innovation in Philanthropy Award from the St. Louis Business Journal for our collaboration with the Mark Cuban Foundation to host no-cost AI bootcamps for high school students.

The award program honors local partnerships for going above and beyond standard philanthropic practices and initiatives to improve the community. Bill Davis, a Senior Vice President at Perficient, recently sat down with the St. Louis Business Journal to share more information about our award-winning partnership and what’s ahead for 2024. “We do a lot of work across many disciplines, but certainly around machine learning, and artificial intelligence for many years,” said Bill. “Our partnership with the Mark Cuban Foundation is an opportunity for [our employees] to give back in an area where they have an innate interest, passion and experience and expertise already.”

Perficient Expands Mark Cuban Foundation AI Bootcamp Partnership

Since 2019, the Mark Cuban Foundation has hosted AI Bootcamps in more than 30 cities in the United States, with a mission to educate students on AI capabilities so they can create a more equitable future. The four-week AI Bootcamps are designed to introduce students in grades 9-12 to foundational AI concepts through educational presentations, interactive lessons, and lab exercises.

This marks Perficient’s third consecutive year collaborating with the Foundation to provide free AI Bootcamps to underserved constituencies and communities. Through the AI Bootcamps program, Perficient is addressing the inequality in access and availability of AI educational resources by providing students with food, laptops, transportation, and educational materials that will assist them in their future careers.

Our Innovation in Philanthropy Award recognition follows Perficient’s partnership extension with the Mark Cuban Foundation to continue offering AI Bootcamps in Dallas, Houston, Detroit, and St. Louis, while creating additional programs in Minneapolis, Atlanta, and Fargo, North Dakota.

Our Colleagues Are Making a Difference Through Mentorship

Perficient colleagues are incredibly passionate about giving back and strive to make a collective impact on the communities in which they live and work. With each Perficient-hosted AI Bootcamp, our colleagues can volunteer as mentors and share their knowledge with participants. By volunteering their time and talent to educate and prepare students for future STEM careers, many colleagues leave the AI Bootcamp programs feeling inspired to continue giving back.

“The bootcamp was incredible,” said Alex McBride, a senior project manager in Perficient’s Houston office. “From an educational perspective, it was a great opportunity for kids to see basic theories and principles around AI design. The kids learned enough in four days to participate in a capstone project that gave them the opportunity to pitch their own AI-based concepts and solutions.”

Our colleagues at Perficient are incredibly caring, generous, and strive to make a difference through a collaborative spirit, drive for success, and pursuit of personal and professional growth opportunities. With Perficient’s Giving Employee Resource Group (ERG), all colleagues can participate in philanthropic initiatives, events, and volunteer opportunities that build a better world.

Blake Edler, a lead technical consultant, lives out Perficient’s values and mission to make a difference in the lives of others. Continue reading to learn more about Blake’s experience as a leader at Perficient, including his involvement with the Giving ERG and how he creates meaningful and genuine connections across our global company that inspire goodwill.

What is your role? Describe a typical day in the life.

Making waves on an adventurous water expedition.

A typical day in the life of a lead technical consultant in the Lafayette Delivery Center (LDC) consists of battling the humid swamp air while swatting away pesky mosquitos to grab a link of boudin, a sausage-like Cajun delicacy, on my way to the heart of downtown Lafayette, Louisiana. Here you can find me hacking away at various editors in php, JavaScript, C#, React, Angular, and more! While I’m thrilled to be a software developer, it doesn’t end there. Perficient has so much more to offer in ancillary opportunities.

Being a career guide and people manager for the LDC has really opened my eyes to the positive impact I can have to encourage others, and the two-way flow of knowledge when the relationship is truly symbiotic. I am an active member of several internal teams for the LDC including the Awards and Recognition Team and the Employee Engagement Team, which just recently wrapped a Game of Thrones competition and a Hogwarts competition for the whole office.

My typical day also consists of interacting with colleagues and offering help where needed, like with our “DoomPod” community. Named after the collection of desks, or “pods,” found in the LDC, the DoomPod community drives opportunities for colleagues to share their expertise and assist others in developing their careers.

Whether big or small, how do you make a difference for our clients, colleagues, communities, or teams?

I am a co-chair of the Perficient Giving ERG Marketing and Communications Committee where I have the pleasure of working with professionals across the globe to bring goodwill to the local community and the world at large. As a co-chair of the committee, I am responsible for creating, proofreading, and editing communications materials. I also lead discussions with committee members, assist colleagues with sharing their initiatives, and participate in events aimed at making a difference in the lives of others.

Doing what I can to help those around me daily is how I make a difference. I believe every individual is already exactly where they need to be to change the world. Making a difference is helping the person to the left and right of you.

Why did you choose Perficient? What keeps you here?

What initially drew me to Perficient was without a doubt the warmth I felt with every single colleague I interacted with during the interviewing process. The feeling of a community or family was strong, and this is ultimately what swayed me to join. What keeps me here is the amazing individuals on various client projects and internal teams who I have the absolute pleasure of working with.

What advice would you give to colleagues who are starting their career with Perficient?

It is a common pitfall to succumb to the demands of an overly taxing workload, which can lead to burnout — a real and consequential phenomenon. My personal experience, and an approach I often advocate for, involves recognizing the extent of one’s control in such situations.

Engaging in open communication with project leaders is pivotal. By collaboratively devising a strategic plan that seamlessly integrates with the intricacies of your life, anyone can achieve a balance that not only safeguards against burnout but also fosters sustained professional growth. Remember, everyone can sculpt work-life harmony with a thoughtful and balanced plan.

Establishing meaningful connections with colleagues and acquaintances not only fosters a sense of camaraderie, but also lays the foundation for a collaborative and supportive work environment. Take the initiative to introduce yourself, attend team events, and participate in workplace activities.

By demonstrating genuine interest, you expand your professional network and contribute to a positive and inclusive atmosphere. Investing time and effort into building these connections is an investment in your own success and the overall workplace community.

How have you developed your career at Perficient?

Blake collecting donations to support Hunger Action Month.

There is no more precious resource in our lives than those around us. To make a real difference in the world, surrounding yourself with the right people is important. Every day, I am blessed to come to work in the LDC and work with colleagues that inspire and challenge me professionally – something that has greatly impacted my career at Perficient.

Learning to listen to people, helping others develop their potential, and clearing blockers was the catalyst for me to become a much more people-focused professional. Talking to everyone around me and figuring out ways to help engage them in our office has also played a role in revitalizing the culture.

What are you passionate about outside of work?

I love spending time with my beautiful wife of 20 years and my four children. In a post-pandemic world, we’ve finally had opportunities to explore our state more. We are adventurers, hikers, kayakers, and rockhounds.

What’s something surprising people might not know about you or your background?

In the early 2000’s, I was traveling on a ship through the Caribbean with millions of dollars’ worth of contraband and flying the Jolly Roger flag.

Yes, this is a fact. Let me explain – I was in the Navy on a counter-drug deployment where we had a record-breaking number of seizures of contraband. While transporting the contraband we were authorized to fly the Jolly Roger standard.

Spreading Holiday Cheer at SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital https://blogs.perficient.com/2023/12/13/spreading-holiday-cheer-at-ssm-health-cardinal-glennon-childrens-hospital/ https://blogs.perficient.com/2023/12/13/spreading-holiday-cheer-at-ssm-health-cardinal-glennon-childrens-hospital/#respond Wed, 13 Dec 2023 16:29:36 +0000 https://blogs.perficient.com/?p=351522

‘Tis the season to bring joy and laughter to those who need it most. Our colleagues take pride in giving back to the greater community and finding unique opportunities to make a difference across the world.

This year, Perficient is thrilled to return as the primary sponsor of the “Light Up Glennon” event at SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital, in which our colleagues along with the entire St. Louis community are invited to gather, sing carols, and brightly shine lights towards the hospital to spread happiness during the holiday season.

The winter months present a challenge for many who are fighting battles with sickness and injury. As part of Perficient’s corporate giving philosophy – advancing STEM education and improving the health and wellbeing of the community – we embrace every opportunity to build a brighter future for the next generation. Perficient’s Giving Employee Resource Group (ERG) is a voluntary, employee-led group that aims to make a collective impact and empower others to ignite change in the community. The annual Light Up Glennon event is just one of many ways that Perficient, our colleagues, and the Giving ERG pay it forward during the year by creating opportunities for meaningful volunteerism.

Through our colleagues’ generosity, we’re bringing a touch of happiness to children and their families at the hospital, while raising spirits and celebrating the true magic of the holidays. Watch the video from the first event in 2023 to understand what this incredible night is all about:

We’re Lighting Up the Night For Children

Light Up Glennon is a joyful event honoring the hospital’s Tree of Hope end of year giving campaign, which raises donations and support for patients at Cardinal Glennon. Perficient colleagues, family members, friends, and the St. Louis community are invited to participate in the festivities, which inspire goodwill and compassion for all. The first event took place on Monday, December 4, with everyone sharing cookies and hot chocolate while singing along to their favorite holiday classics.

“I’ve attended Light Up Glennon for three years now, and each time, it feels like the first,” said Justin Keller, senior marketing coordinator. “It’s a great opportunity to be surrounded by colleagues and the St. Louis community for a great cause. It’s so amazing to see the smiles on everyone’s faces as we sing and shine lights up to the children and their families to spread some holiday joy. I’m proud to see Perficient’s dedication to this initiative and look forward to this event for years to come!”

Throughout the evening, participants were surprised with guest appearances from the St. Louis Blues mascot, Louie, the St. Louis Cardinals mascot, Fredbird, Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus, and the Grinch. Officials from local fire departments waved at the smiling children from atop large ladders and lit up the sky with overhead lights.

“This is my third year attending, and each year it’s just as memorable, special, and beautiful,” said Lysa Young-Bates, senior marketing manager. “It’s always so much fun to see the Grinch and Santa and hear all the different voices. I walk away from this feeling just as touched as I hope the children feel.”

The event brings people together in celebration of the season by inspiring others to share their stories and reminisce on the importance of giving back. “I have attended this incredibly heart-warming holiday tradition since Perficient began sponsoring the Light Up Glennon Community Event at Cardinal Glennon Childrens Hospital five years ago,” said Garrett Hill, senior marketing coordinator. “When I look back at how the event has changed over the years, one aspect remains paramount: the community involvement. It is truly amazing to see so many members of the St. Louis community come together to give these children, young adults, and their families and friends a little holiday cheer. This is an important and incredible holiday tradition, and I look forward to seeing how the event continues to grow in the coming years.”

Help Perficient Make a Difference On December 18

For those unable to attend the first event, or who would like to participate again, there is another opportunity to Light Up Glennon on Monday, December 18. Come join Perficient as we shine our lights toward the hospital, ring in the holidays, and bring happiness to children. Attendees should plan to arrive at the hospital grounds at 6:00 p.m. with festivities beginning at 6:30 p.m.

It’s a spectacular display of lights, and an event that Perficient will continue to sponsor for many years to come. Perficient’s director of Content and Communications, Liz Drazen, shared, “I think everyone can agree that Cardinal Glennon is an incredible organization, and they’re doing so much for the children and families within our community. Perficient is also a St. Louis community staple. We’ve been in this community for about 25 years, and we have some of the most generous and giving colleagues. Any opportunity that we have to give back to those communities in which we live and work, we’re going to take. When you can align that with Cardinal Glennon, and being able to spread some holiday cheer, why wouldn’t you?”

We would love to see an even greater turnout and encourage colleagues in St. Louis to bring their family, friends, and loved ones. Please RSVP to ensure there are enough refreshments for all who join. No matter how large or small, we have the power to make a difference.

WiT India Celebrates Their Allies during International Men’s Day https://blogs.perficient.com/2023/12/12/wit-india-celebrates-their-allies-during-international-mens-day/ https://blogs.perficient.com/2023/12/12/wit-india-celebrates-their-allies-during-international-mens-day/#comments Tue, 12 Dec 2023 16:12:57 +0000 https://blogs.perficient.com/?p=350221

Women in Tech (WiT) India, in association with Perficient GDC Nagpur and Pune, celebrated International Men’s Day at both offices with great gusto. It was a distinctive event, as it was celebrated for the first time ever in GDC Nagpur and Pune. This was an occasion to celebrate men’s lives which are dedicated to society, community, family, marriage, childcare, and the environment. The objective of celebrating Men’s Day has been set out in all the 6 pillars:

  • To promote positive male role models,
  • To highlight discrimination against men,
  • To celebrate Men’s positive contributions,
  • To create a safer and better world,
  • To focus on their health and wellbeing
  • To improve gender relations.

The day started with the distribution of a Card and Badge as a token of appreciation to each male colleague at the Nagpur and Pune offices, thanking them for all the support, contributions, and dedication towards their surroundings and society as a whole. The celebration began with everyone being gathered in the cafeteria, all dressed in shades of blue and black. Along with the 450 colleagues from Nagpur, we were joined in the celebration by colleagues from other GDCs, including Dan Venkatesan, Arun Murugadoss, Raghuraman Ramdoss, Abhijit Paul, Mouli Ganapathy, Lakshmi Munnangi. They were welcomed by a huge round of applause by the attendees. Neha Pasi, the host for the day, started the event with an introduction and shared the importance of celebrating International Men’s Day.

A heartwarming and visually captivating video was played, dedicated to all the Male colleagues highlighting the special moments, and roles they play in day-to-day life. It was a compilation of many cherished memories, significant milestones and moments that resonated the sense of gratitude that we felt towards our colleagues.

After the video, it was time for the much-awaited session by the General Manager, GDC Nagpur Anurag Shivhare, for an enlightening session on the topic – Healthy Men, Healthy World.it was time for the much-awaited session by the General Manager, Anurag Shivhare, at GDC Nagpur office for an enlightening session on the topic – Healthy Men, Healthy World. Similar Session was conducted by Senior Technical Architect, Kapil Khadgi, at GDC Pune Anurag’s session started on an interesting note with a short pop quiz on International Men’s Day, with the right answers getting exciting prizes. He explained the 6 pillars that make the foundation of celebrating this beautiful occasion. He emphasized the interconnection between individual well-being and, ultimately, the broader world, and shared helpful information focused on mental health.

Anurag listed the key factors that affect men’s health, such as heart disease, cancer, mental health, chronic disease, and life expectancy. The session stated various facts: one of them being from WHO, that one in four people are more likely to have mental or neurological disorders at some point in their lives. Through the message: “Hear the silence – See the Hidden”, he encouraged everyone to be aware of the causes and symptoms of mental health issues among men. He also gave some valuable tips to change our lifestyles, which will significantly impact our health in the long run.

The session was full of compassion and empathy. The session came to an end with an emotional and beautiful song projecting the meaning of this heartwarming and informative session.

Shweta Rawlani, Senior HCM Manager, GDC Nagpur, came forward to present the vote of thanks on behalf of all female colleagues to their male counterparts for being the support system to everyone around them. She appreciated the joint efforts of WiT India and the management team of GDC Nagpur, for organizing such an iconic event and to Anurag Shivhare, for being the driving force behind all the events that are held in GDC Nagpur and Pune.

Towards the end of the celebration, all the male colleagues were called to the front for a cake-cutting ceremony, which was followed by delicious snacks and a DJ to sway everyone away with their fantastic moves!

Perficient Successfully Partners with Mark Cuban Foundation to Host AI Bootcamps in Four Cities https://blogs.perficient.com/2023/11/29/perficient-hosts-ai-bootcamps-in-houston-dallas-st-louis-and-detroit-with-mark-cuban-foundation/ https://blogs.perficient.com/2023/11/29/perficient-hosts-ai-bootcamps-in-houston-dallas-st-louis-and-detroit-with-mark-cuban-foundation/#respond Wed, 29 Nov 2023 22:09:21 +0000 https://blogs.perficient.com/?p=350567

Perficient had the honor of collaborating with the Mark Cuban Foundation for a third year to host impactful Artificial Intelligence (AI) Bootcamps for high school students in Dallas, Houston, Detroit, and St. Louis. Our colleagues have a strong passion for making a difference in their communities, and partnering with the Mark Cuban foundation to advance STEM education has been an incredible experience for all involved. Read on below to see how each of our local teams connected with their communities and helped drive the next generation of technology leaders forward.

Houston

For the second year in a row, we welcomed an impressive group of 21-24 eager high school students for each of the four weekends of our AI Bootcamp in Houston. Supported by a team of 16 dedicated Perficient volunteer mentors, this experience was more than just an educational endeavor – it was a collaborative journey to shape the future of tech leaders.

Our passionate mentors, committed to nurturing the potential of the next generation, played a pivotal role in guiding students through the intricate landscape of AI concepts and applications.

“The program was incredible. From an educational perspective, it was a great opportunity for kids to see the basic theories and principles around AI Design. The kids learned over the course of four days enough to participate in an assignment that gave them an opportunity to pitch their own AI Based Concepts and Solutions. We as an organization were blown away by the kids. They were incredibly smart and driven. I think the consensus from our Houston camp was that the future of technology and AI is in good hands with this young generation.”

Dallas

For its third consecutive year, our Dallas AI Bootcamp drew the enthusiasm of 28 high school students, each ready to embark on a transformative journey into the world of Artificial Intelligence. Committed to fostering the next generation of tech leaders, Perficient brought together a team of 13 dedicated volunteers to guide these aspiring innovators through a four-day intensive program.

The Dallas Bootcamp not only provided a platform for immersive learning but also served as a stage for students to interact with AI pioneers and experts as guest speakers. These luminaries shared their insights, experiences, and wisdom, igniting a spark of curiosity and fueling the students’ passion for AI.

Img 1204Throughout the program, students delved into a diverse range of AI tools and applications. This hands-on exploration equipped them with the knowledge and skills needed to understand the principles and theories behind AI design. The success of the camp was evident as students with newfound expertise actively participated in an assignment challenging them to pitch their own AI-based concepts and solutions. One notable aspect of the Dallas Bootcamp was the students’ impressive showcase on the last day. With passion and precision, they presented a variety of AI ideas that ranged from groundbreaking solutions to forward-thinking applications.

“In Dallas, the theme was clear – ‘Accelerating Imagination – AI Unleashed.’ As Perficient and the Mark Cuban Foundation continue to collaborate, these AI Bootcamps stand as a testament to the boundless potential and bright future of AI, driven by the passion and creativity of the next generation.”

-Srini Kotaru, Senior Project Manager

St. Louis

In St. Louis, Perficient proudly hosted 25 ambitious high school students for its first-ever AI Bootcamp experience. Over the course of several weekends, our dedicated team of 21 mentors and volunteers, each contributing their expertise, worked hand-in-hand with these young minds to unravel the mysteries of Artificial Intelligence.

The St. Louis AI Bootcamp was a remarkable opportunity for students to dive into the possibilities that AI offers, sparking their curiosity and expanding their understanding of the limitless potential within AI. Our mentors, driven by a passion for nurturing emerging talent, were pivotal in guiding students through the multifaceted landscape of AI concepts and applications.

As the students immersed themselves in a hands-on exploration of AI tools and applications, they gained valuable insights into the principles and theories underlying AI design. The Bootcamp not only served as an educational platform but also as a space for students to interact with industry experts and pioneers who shared their experiences, igniting the flames of curiosity and a passion for AI innovation.

“We are investing in the communities that Perficient supports for future generations. It ties in perfectly with our belief system and everything we stand for.”

– Amy Barondeau, Senior Talent Acquisition Specialist

To top off the excitement of the bootcamps, Mark Cuban himself even popped in to give these future leaders in tech some insight!

Detroit

In the motor city, we had 13 students and 6 volunteers. Throughout several weekends, our passionate students in Detroit got the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience with AI through hands-on workshops. These workshops helped demystify complex concepts, from building basic models to tackling real-world problems as demonstrated by the students’ final capstone project.

In addition to hands-on experiences, our students had the opportunity to engage with and establish valuable connections with industry experts and thought leaders in AI. These professionals shared insights, stories, and practical advice that helped fuel their passion for AI and data.

“Beyond the technical skills acquired, there is also a sense of empowerment and opening doors to futures yet to be imagined. The students should now view themselves as architects of change and innovators of tomorrow. My hope is that as they take their newfound knowledge back to their schools and neighborhoods, the impact multiplies.”

– Gugu Mabuza, Director CDDO Consulting

Perficient and the American Cancer Society Make Strides to End Breast Cancer https://blogs.perficient.com/2023/11/10/perficient-and-the-american-cancer-society-make-strides-to-end-breast-cancer/ https://blogs.perficient.com/2023/11/10/perficient-and-the-american-cancer-society-make-strides-to-end-breast-cancer/#respond Fri, 10 Nov 2023 17:15:36 +0000 https://blogs.perficient.com/?p=349129

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which supports a global campaign to raise awareness and support for the women and men who are affected by this disease. Whether you are a survivor, newly diagnosed, or know a loved one with breast cancer, having a supportive community that encourages conversation and hope is valuable.

We’re proud to partner with the American Cancer Society, a nationally recognized leader in breast cancer research and its Making Strides movement. The organization is helping to ensure greater access to care while providing support to reduce the risk of breast cancer. Through our Perficient Gives Charitable Match program, all colleagues located in the United States can make a donation, matched by Perficient, to the American Cancer Society or a charity of their choosing.

Perficient and our colleagues recognized Breast Cancer Awareness Month through a variety of programming efforts and awareness campaigns. These efforts include sharing informational resources, organizing knowledge-sharing events, and wearing the color pink. Continue reading to learn more about how our colleagues and partners are making a difference. First, let’s learn more about breast cancer and Perficient’s partnership with the American Cancer Society.

The American Cancer Society’s Mission

For three decades, the American Cancer Society has grown its Making Strides Against Breast Cancer movement to spread awareness and hope for a world free from breast cancer. Volunteers participate in three-five-mile walks to support breast cancer survivors and those living with metastatic breast cancer, as well as caregivers and family members.

By uniting our communities, we can provide hope by funding groundbreaking breast cancer research, providing access to treatment information, and sharing inspirational stories. Together, we’re making a difference in the fight against breast cancer and providing access to equitable healthcare for women.

What is Breast Cancer?

Breast cancer is a disease where cells in breast tissues begin to change, often resulting in a lump or mass. Most breast lumps are classified as benign and are malignant, or non-cancerous. However, one in eight women will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer during their lifetime. This makes it imperative to maintain regular checkups with a trusted medical professional. If breast cancer is detected at a beginning stage, the risk of a challenging journey with cancer reduces significantly.

According to the American Cancer Society more than:

  • 290,000 people will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year,
  • 4 million breast cancer survivors are living in the United States alone, and
  • 150,000 breast cancer patients are living with metastatic disease.

It’s important to prioritize an early screening to detect breast cancer. Completing regular screening, such as a mammogram, ultrasound, MRI, or biopsy, can catch the disease in its most treatable stage. We encourage all people to make a medical appointment if they are experiencing symptoms or signs of breast cancer.

There are a wide range of treatment options available, and staying educated is important. Medical facilities can provide greater access to patient treatment and care with advanced technology, which is why donations can have a significant impact on the quality of life.

Perficient Inspires Colleagues to Join the Fight to End Breast Cancer

No matter how large or small, every action has the potential to drive change. In collaboration with Perficient’s Giving ERG, our global offices shared their support by wearing pink during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Colleagues in our Lafayette office enjoyed sporting pink and supporting the cause, while taking a break from their daily routine.

Perficient’s offices in Latin America placed informational signs throughout the shared workspace. The team also planned virtual a knowledge-sharing session to communicate about the resources available.

Latin America colleagues created signs to make a difference.

During the virtual session, a trained specialist shared tools for detecting breast cancer at an early stage. Colleagues discovered the importance of self-examination as well as identifying risk factors, warning signs, and symptoms.

“I enjoyed the talk about breast cancer,” said Alejandra Gómez Moscoso, senior business analyst. “The speaker was approachable and didactic. She clarified doubts, and it helped me to become more aware of self-examination. Having at this moment a friend who is in this process of fighting breast cancer was also a reminder to attend the talk with more openness.”

Our Partnerships Can Make a Difference

From volunteering, fundraising, and participating in motivational events, there are many ways to get involved with the American Cancer Society’s mission to end breast cancer. Through Perficient’s partnership with former LGPA player and current golf analyst Morgan Pressel, we are driving impact and change for women across the globe.

As founder of the Morgan Pressel Foundation, she uses her influence in the industry to make a significant impact in the fight against breast cancer while serving as an inspiration to women from all walks of life.

Watch the Video to Learn More About Our Partnership with Morgan Pressel:

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, women empowerment, and Perficient’s promise to prioritize growth for everyone, Perficient recently curated a panel of women leaders to discuss advice for career advancement and women empowerment. Moderated by Morgan, influential women shared knowledge on key factors expediting industry growth, the importance of networking, and advice for leading by example.

Perficient and Adobe recently hosted a private golf clinic where participants could share inspiring stories and network with other like-minded professionals. The event featured a brunch, fireside chat, and golf clinic with Morgan.

Empowering women to believe that they can achieve their dreams is important, and through our Women in Technology Employee Resource Group (ERG) we can provide a platform for women and allies to share their experience with others. Members of the group are encouraged to build connections, collaborate, and network with leaders and peers within Perficient.

By facilitating educational opportunities and group knowledge-sharing events, colleagues are encouraged to continue learning outside of their daily responsibilities. Whether it is providing helpful resources, or shedding light on important topics, we’re proud to provide access to materials that can accelerate growth for women in the STEM field.

Perficient challenges, champions, and celebrates the unique ways that we can accelerate growth in the community. Every action has the potential to drive change, and we all have the power to make a difference. While October has come to a close, we encourage everyone to share their support throughout the year.

5 Reasons You’ll Love Working for Perficient in Atlanta https://blogs.perficient.com/2023/11/09/5-reasons-youll-love-working-for-perficient-in-atlanta/ https://blogs.perficient.com/2023/11/09/5-reasons-youll-love-working-for-perficient-in-atlanta/#respond Thu, 09 Nov 2023 17:25:55 +0000 https://blogs.perficient.com/?p=349091

Working at Perficient offers you the chance to connect with a global community of exceptional colleagues, while also empowering you to thrive in your local community.

Here are five reasons our local colleagues say they love working for Perficient in the city of Atlanta.

1. Team Culture

Our Atlanta team has a very rich culture and amazing employees. The team can be described as “down for anything”, if anyone has any ideas on unique ways to bring people together, this group is on board. Culture is important to this team; the atmosphere in the office is vibrant, and theScreenshot 2023 11 09 092732 collaborative spirit among colleagues makes every day enjoyable. The new Atlanta General Manager Joseph Willet has a rich history with Perficient and in his new capacity, he is responsible for leading Perficient’s expansion in the Atlanta market and ensuring exceptional service to our local clients. In the last year, the office has been named a top workplace by the Atlanta-Journal Constitution, an award voted on by employees. Perficient was 1 of only 175 companies in Atlanta to be recognized, furthering testament to our company’s incredible culture.

2. Work on Large Clients & Projects

Atlanta has a thriving tech ecosystem, which makes it an excellent location for tech professionals. The city is home to 15+ Fortune 500 companies, most of which Perficient works with, as well as several renowned brands. You’ll get the chance to collaborate with some of Atlanta’s most prominent and forward-thinking corporations, playing a part in groundbreaking initiatives that drive progress and expansion. You will be working on technology programs with some of our biggest partners, such as Adobe, Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Salesforce, and many more. With both of our Atlanta offices strategically located in or near the heart of the city, you will find yourself right in the mix with clients, prospects, and competitors.Screenshot 2023 11 09 094921

3. City Culture

Aside from its flourishing tech scene, the city of Atlanta has many other things to offer, such as music, food, and sports. The city has a rich history, with many museums and historical landmarks such as the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park. The city is also home to many beautiful parks, such as Piedmont Park and the Atlanta Botanical Garden, which can offer a great escape from the city’s hustle and bustle. Additionally, Atlanta is known for its diverse neighborhoods, each with its own unique character and vibe. From the trendy and upscale Buckhead to the artsy and eclectic Little Five Points, there is something for everyone in Atlanta. Many Perficient employees enjoy catching a live show on the weekends or catching an Atlanta United game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

4. Local (and Global) Partnerships

As a Perficient employee, you have the unique opportunity to witness amazing partnerships firsthand, such as our partnership with the Atlanta United soccer team. One of the standouts of this partnership is the Coin Toss Kid opportunity. Atlanta United’s Coin Toss Kid provides a nominated child the chance to interact with players and flip the game coin to kick off a match. Opportunities like this give our team the chance to give back to the local Atlanta community, something we are very passionate about at Perficient.1695915791151

Perficient has established many other noteworthy partnerships that colleagues enjoy, showcasing its commitment to excellence in various fields. The RioBotz team‘s collaboration with Perficient resulted in the creation of the Minotaur bot. Perficient’s partnerships with notable PGA and LPGA golfers, as well as successful teams like the St. Louis Cardinals and Dallas Mavericks, reflect the company’s dedication to fostering growth and achievement across all areas.

5. Community Engagement

Our colleagues at Perficient truly value giving back to the communities in which we live and work. When considering the number of colleagues our growing organization has, it was no surprise when we decided to develop our Perficient Giving Employee Resource Group (ERG). Earlier this year our Atlanta Giving ERG sponsored a dinner with members and staff of Extra Special People (ESP). Back in 2022, the Atlanta team partnered with CURE Childhood Cancer to give two incredible kids the chance to interact and get involved with their favorite soccer team, Atlanta United.

Perficient

Most recently, our Atlanta office donated 250 pounds of food to Feeding America during Hunger Action Month (HAM), collecting the most out of any office in the country. In addition to holding a food drive, the team hosted a special event at the end of HAM to celebrate their collective efforts where colleagues who had donated at least five pounds of food got to pie a director of their choice in the face. A theme that rings true throughout all Perficient, not just our Atlanta office, is our love for giving back to our local community and getting involved.1698942832422

Our corporate giving philosophy involves two main philanthropic pillars, advancing STEM education and improving the health and wellbeing of the community. At Perficient, we take pride in volunteering our time, resources, and skills to promote positive change. This year, Perficient’s Giving Employee Resource Group (ERG) collaborated with our community partner, Feeding America, to support Hunger Action Month (HAM), a global campaign to fight food insecurity.

Feeding America is the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization, working to connect people with food and end hunger. The organization’s mission is to advance change in America by ensuring equitable access to nutritious food in partnership with food banks, policymakers, supporters, and the communities they serve.

During the month of September, Perficient colleagues united across the globe to share resources, volunteer at food banks, and make donations to ensure a brighter world.

Announcing Perficient’s 2023 HAM Results

During HAM, the Giving ERG challenged each Perficient office to donate at least 50 pounds of food in support of ending world hunger. The offices that made the biggest impact through their generosity, creativity, and inspiring approaches would be named the 2023 HAM Champions. All global Perficient offices became temporary food donation centers where colleagues could bring non-perishable food items. All items would then be donated to area food banks.

Through our collective efforts, Perficient donated more than 8,500 pounds of food and 5,000 meals to support those in need.

Today, we’re excited to announce that our Nagpur and Atlanta offices are our 2023 HAM Champions!

Colleagues in Nagpur came together to pool their resources and generously fill 70 bags full of essential groceries. The team then distributed each bag to underprivileged families in the area, accounting for more than 2,300 pounds of food – an incredible achievement.

Our Atlanta colleagues supported HAM in several ways. What set them apart was their “Pie a Director” event where colleagues who donated at least five pounds of food could pie a Director of their choice in the face. All told, colleagues in our Atlanta office donated more than 250 pounds of food.

While each Perficient office showed true spirit to make a difference during HAM, these two surpassed our expectations. Honorable mentions include our colleagues in Puerto Rico, a small team that rallied to donate a significant amount of food, and Chennai, who coordinated an impressive food drive that’s providing nutritious food to those in need in their community.

These are just a few of the selfless acts found across our global company during HAM.

Take a look at the blogs below to read how our global colleagues made a difference:

How Can You Give Back?

The fight against food insecurity does not end in September! No matter the time of year, any donation, volunteer effort, and act of kindness can impact lives. Through our Perficient Gives Charitable Match program, all Perficient colleagues based in the U.S. can donate to charities of their choice. The monetary donations, matched by Perficient, will provide necessary support for those in need.

Latin America Colleagues Celebrate HAM https://blogs.perficient.com/2023/11/01/latin-america-colleagues-celebrate-ham/ https://blogs.perficient.com/2023/11/01/latin-america-colleagues-celebrate-ham/#respond Wed, 01 Nov 2023 20:42:53 +0000 https://blogs.perficient.com/?p=348453

In September, we celebrate Hunger Action Month, a campaign founded by Perficient partner Feeding America that aims to spread the word and aid in relieving food insecurity.

This year, we not only continued our support of HAM, we expanded our support globally. The Perficient Giving ERG hosted a friendly competition, challenging Perficient offices across the globe to make an impact by donating non-perishable food to local shelters. The offices that made the biggest impact would qualify for special recognition and coveted bragging rights as the 2023 HAM Champions.

We previously shared blogs recapping how our colleagues in India and the United States made a difference in the fight against food insecurity. Today, let’s take a look at our Latin America colleagues’ HAM efforts.

Colombia (Bogotá, Cali and Medellín)

Our team in Colombia partnered with three different non-profit organizations that operate in the main cities of Bogotá, Cali and Medellín. The Colombia team collected 478 pounds  of non-perishable food that will be sent to their non-profit partner organizations. In addition to the donations, children from a non-profit organization in Gente Unida, a nonprofit providing vulnerable kids with care, food, and shelter, visited the Medellín office to receive their donations learn more about Perficient. While only five children attended, there are more than 170 children at this organization that are benefitting of the donations collected.

Santiago, Chile

The motivation to help people in need is contagious, and the Perficient team in Chile committed to this initiative as part of Perficient’s first global HAM campaign. Our colleagues were eager to contribute to the global HAM effort, and they even had the opportunity to recommend and vote on the local organization they would support. The team selected  a food bank that supports homeless people and high-risk communities. Altogether, colleagues in Chile donated a total of 110 pounds of non-perishable food items.

Montevideo, Uruguay

Colleagues in Uruguay also had a detailed voting process to determine which association would receive donations. Colleagues could choose from three suggested organizations. After the vote, the office selected the Los Niños de la Calle (the children of the street), an organization dedicated to distributing food and winter clothing to those experiencing homelessness. In addition to donating 176 pounds of non-perishable food, the team cooked meals for 60 people.

Monterrey, Mexico

Our Mexico colleagues enthusiastically provided in-kind donations to support those in need during HAM. The Monterrey office donated their food items to Hambre  Cero Nuevo Leon: Una Causa Para Todos (Hunger Zero Nuevo León: A Cause for Everyone), an initiative created by the government of Nuevo León with the purpose of benefiting 430,000 people. The cause supports actions from many angles, including preparing food pantries for distribution, providing hot means to those in poverty three times a week, direct food assistance to impoverished families, and assisting civil organizations in providing groceries and basic food items.

Perficient Colleagues Fight Hunger on a Global Scale

Perficient colleagues continue to show passion for helping those in need. With over 7,500 colleagues globally, we continue to branch out and extend the support we can give.

The third blog in our series about HAM will cover colleague efforts in the United States. For now, please take a look at the slideshow below of our Latin America colleagues supporting their communities.

September is Hunger Action Month (HAM) when Feeding America, a Perficient community partner, organizes a campaign to spread awareness about food insecurity.

To support these efforts, Perficient Giving ERG organized a friendly HAM competition to encourage colleagues worldwide to donate non-perishable food items to their local food banks. Offices that collect the most donations and have the biggest impact qualify for special recognition as HAM champions!

LEARN MORE: Read Perficient’s 2022 Community Impact Report

We previously shared how our colleagues in India supported HAM. Today, let’s look at how our US offices contributed to the HAM competition and what they did to make an impact.

Allentown, PA

The Allentown office consisting of Commerce and Adobe colleagues had an amazing office picnic to celebrate successful projects in 2023. As part of this gathering, the team also supported HAM by encouraging colleagues to bring non-perishable food items to the picnic for donation. It was a huge success, and the team is grateful for all who donated and participated in this fun event.

Atlanta, GA

Our Atlanta colleagues come from multiple business units but joined as one to make an impact on the community for HAM. Throughout September, they hosted an in-office food drive, volunteered as a group, and hosted a HAM closeout party with a special incentive to bring in donations. The team started by cooking and serving meals at Food4Lives, a family-founded organization that feeds, educates, and works to empower the homeless of Atlanta.

In addition to holding a food drive at the office, the team hosted a special event at the end of HAM to celebrate their collective efforts. Colleagues who donated at least five pounds of food had the chance to pie a director of their choice in the face! There was joy and laughter, but the real treat was raising hundreds of dollars for Feeding American and donating 250 pounds of food to Forever Fed, which supports food pantries, kitchens, and childcare centers throughout the metro Atlanta area.

Columbus, OH

The Ohio team had many participants contribute to this year’s HAM, and they donated food to Westerville Area Resource Ministry (WARM), which not only brings food to the table of those who are in need but also delivers hope and faith to families who need help. The Ohio team delivered 300 pounds of food and household items to ensure WARM can continue its activities and support the community.

Dallas, TX

The Dallas Charitable Giving Committee invited all Dallas-based colleagues to participate in HAM in two ways. In addition to donating non-perishable food items, Dallas colleagues volunteered with Tango Charities/Feed the City where they helped make 3,628 meals with Feed the City at the Star in Frisco. 800,000 people face food insecurity in North Texas alone, so the Dallas team certainly made an impact where support is needed.

Detroit, MI

The Michigan office witnessed overwhelming support for HAM this year. It was also a teambuilding event that brought colleagues together and encouraged them to donate and make an impact. The team donated food to the Clarenceville Food Bank in Livonia which has been a recipient of the team’s past food drives and has always appreciated their donations. Food drives have always been part of Michigan’s efforts to drive change in the community and HAM was another opportunity to contribute even more.

Houston, TX

To kick off HAM and get the team excited, the Houston office spent a Friday afternoon at the Houston Food Bank. After hours of sorting frozen food that was donated by multiple restaurants and businesses, the team proudly contributed food for 1,200 meals for surrounding communities in need. To keep the giving spirit going, the team also hosted a pancake breakfast in the office where their Managing Director, John Latham, flipped pancakes. Houston colleagues were encouraged to come to the office, meet some new faces, and bring in food donations for HAM. Some of the colleagues brought in additional breakfast items to contribute to the feast. By the time the last pancake was flipped – their donation box was overflowing!

Lafayette, LA

Lafayette colleagues demonstrated their commitment to social responsibility and fighting food insecurity by supporting St. Joseph Diner, an organization that offers free, nutritious meals to those facing homelessness and hunger. In one volunteer event, the team served over 200 hot meals, including green bean casserole and tomato parmesan, and actively assisted in various aspects of the diner’s operations. They played a significant role by helping with setup before lunch service and ensuring cleanliness once meal distribution ended.

Puerto Rico

The Puerto Rico team supported the Food Bank in Puerto Rico, an affiliate with Feeding America providing food to people with few or no economic resources. The team decided to collect food, visit, and volunteer at the food bank as part of their HAM activities. Their participation consisted of organizing and classifying food and supplies at the Food Bank. In addition to volunteering, the team of four Puerto Rico colleagues collected and donated an impressive 347 pounds of food.

St. Louis, MO

The St. Louis office rallied together to fight hunger in September. Because of the generous donations of the office, the St. Louis team was able to donate 541 pounds of food to support the St. Louis Area Food Bank.

The office liaison also saw firsthand the careful consideration people had when picking out food to bring in. There was a variety of high-protein meals, baby food, and children’s snacks. One colleague even used all their grocery store loyalty points to purchase donation items. The St. Louis team closed out HAM by hosting a happy hour inviting colleagues to attend, learn more about the Giving ERG and HAM, enjoy ham sandwiches, and celebrate the differences they made in their local community.
