April Updates – Microsoft Teams

Microsoft Teams has recently come out with some exciting new features and functionality which makes this hub for teamwork an even more robust tool. In this article I’ll go over some of those updates that have rolled out or are in the process of rolling out over the last few weeks.

April Updates for Users

As these features are made available, your organization will enjoy:

  • New Chat Functionality
    • The ability to import your Skype for Business contacts to Microsoft Teams
    • Unified Presence between Teams and Skype for Business
    • Interoperability between Microsoft Teams and Skype for Business
    • Out of office messages and improved notifications about calls
    • Improved notifications about calls
  • New Collaboration Functionality
    • More channels per team (increased to 200 channels per team)
    • Support for new languages
    • Collaborate with anyone in Microsoft Teams with guest access

These changes are associated with Office 365 Roadmap IDs: 24244, 24190, 24188, 24191 and 24167.

April Updates for Admins

  • New Microsoft Teams & Skype for Business Admin Center (check out my last blog post for more information)
  • Microsoft Teams custom messaging policies
  • Retention policies for Teams
  • The ability to Install Microsoft Teams using MSI

April Updates for Teams iOS & Android Apps

  • Guest access on mobile
  • Skype for Business interop with persistent chat
  • Unified presence between Teams and Skype for Business
  • Importing your Skype for Business contacts to Microsoft Teams
