Reflections on Gratitude: Partners In Health (Part 5 of 5)

What are you grateful for? At Perficient, we’re thankful for everything our partners do in the field to improve and save lives. This week, we’re taking a moment to reflect on the work of Partners In Health, an organization that provides healthcare services and resources to the most impoverished and underserved regions around the world. PIH is a long-standing partner to Perficient and recently was featured in a Microsoft campaign that highlighted their efforts to bring unified collaboration and cloud technology to their 18,000 colleagues in 10 countries.
We sat down with Dave Mayo, PIH’s Chief Information Officer, to get an update on the organization’s work and fulfillment of their mission to bring the benefits of modern medical science to those most in need. For the next week, we’ll highlight parts of our interview with Mayo to reflect our gratitude for the work they’re doing.

Perficient: Do you have any final thoughts to share on the work that PIH is doing with Perficient and Microsoft?
Dave Mayo: Partners In Health is really honored that Perficient and [Perficient CEO and President] Jeff Davis have made the commitment to support us. As an organization, we are very appreciative of the work that was done and that continues. The technology makes our folks more efficient in the field. They have the ability to be more connected with mobile devices, and even if they’re experiencing a learning curve with some of the platforms, or if they’re having technical difficulties here and there, to be able to get everyone on a Skype for Business call or attend meetings and see your colleagues face to face – before, we didn’t really have that opportunity.
Every dollar that we spend on technology is a dollar that doesn’t go into the field. By leveraging technology and making our folks more efficient, it allows us to do more with less resources and budget. It’s critical to our organizational model.
We had a situation just this week where we were running out of storage on an Azure device, and the ability for us to increase the capacity in Azure took minutes, whereas it would have taken us days to do that if we even had the infrastructure in house. We have been migrating everything we can to Azure and leveraging the cloud. Having Microsoft supporting and maintaining that and the overall reliability and accessibility of Azure and Office 365 over the last two years that we’ve been using it has been great. I can’t recall a significant outage in Azure or the Office 365 suite in two years.
As the organization is growing and we’re trying to upgrade the way that we work with our colleagues in the field, improving the technology footprint across the board is definitely part of our primary mission.

This is part 5 of a week-long series on PIH’s work. Check out more about our work with Partners In Health here.
