SharePoint Saturday Austin, January 21, 2012

I had the privilege of attending SharePoint Saturday Austin on January 21, 2012. I have attended several SharePoint Saturdays since the summer of 2010. SharePoint Saturday Austin was a superior event not to mention that this was their inaugural event. The theme of this event was “Bring the Team.”
I had never been to Austin, Texas and thought I would attend SPSAusTx just for fun. I always enjoy learning more about SharePoint and hanging out with the SharePoint community.
Thanks to @jbhoward and @MatthewRAX for putting on an extraordinary event. It could not have been done without the help of countless ambassadors.
The location The AT&T Executive Education and Conference Center was like an all-inclusive vacation. There was the spacious conference center with the fastest Wi-Fi I have ever experienced at any conference. The hotel was located onsite a quick courtyard walk away. The sponsors and classrooms were located conveniently on two floors. The SharePint was held at Gabriel’s Café just a few steps from the Amphitheatre. See what I mean about an all-inclusive vacation?
I found the University of Texas campus welcoming and friendly.
There were seven speaker tracks including Design, Dev, Business, Information Technology, Business Intelligence, and Power User. There were several SharePoint MCMs and MVPs, a highlight being Bill English of MindSharp.
I participated in the Women in Technology panel that was led by my Perficient colleague Suzanne George @SPGenie. I was joined by fellow Perficient colleagues Misty Rodriguez ad Marcy Kellar @MarcyKellar along with Tiffany Songvilay @OfficeOverEasy. There was a lively discussion along with Q & A. We had a packed room with both men and women and I think the result was clarification of many issues that women face in the IT corporate community.
Because of something called #snowpocalypse there were several speakers that were not able to attend the conference. As a result, it was my pleasure to volunteer to fill-in to speak. I gave the presentation “What’s in a List” a session that takes a deep dive in the SharePoint 2010 Ribbon and compare SharePoint list features between versions 2007 and 2010. The presentation can be found here on Slide Share.
