Life at Perficient

What Tech Recruiters Look for in Resumes

One question that our team receives on a consistent basis is “How can I make  my resume stand out from the competition?”  Christy Divenere is a Talent Acquisition Manager at Perficient and she volunteered some of her time to share some insights on some key indicators she coaches her team to look for in experienced candidates:
Christy started our conversation by sharing that a successful consulting background needed to be present before a candidate would be contacted for a phone screen.  When we asked her what key factors would be part of a “successful background” she stated that her team looks for candidates that have completed multiple projects in the same technology stack, displayed hands on leadership to team members and client partners, and had experience working with high visibility clients.
ChristyShe went on the share that while experience in a specific industry is preferred she always tells her team to “gold star” resumes that show a dedication to learning multiple aspects of a business– not a single component.  We asked for an example of this and she said “If one of my team members has two seemingly identical candidates and candidate A has payer / provider experience and candidate B has payer / provider, hospital, and insurance, candidate B is much more appealing to our business.
Finally Christy shared that stability is a big factor in her decision making process. She added that no one is going to be judged on their career stability from 2008 – 2011 because of the chaos that was happening in our economy but we are looking for individuals who take a strategic view and want to grow their career with Perficient instead of people who are constant “job hoppers”.
So let’s recap:

  1. Show a successful consulting background.
  2. Have completed multiple projects in the same technology stack.
  3. Display hands on leadership to team members and client partners.
  4. Demonstrate experience working with high-visibility clients.
  5. Show experience in a specific industry if possible.
  6. Show a dedication to learning multiple aspects of a business — not just a single component.
  7. Take a strategic view and want to grow their career with Perficient instead of people who are constant “job hoppers”.
