12 Days of DevOps: Continuous Innovation and Sanity

12daysofdevops

One of my most favorite traditions of Christmas is the singing of carols. Nothing brings out the joy of the season like music that inspires happiness, giving, and gratitude for the year that has been.

My favorite song during the season is the “12 Days of Christmas” because of it’s fun approach to the holiday. While we may not need calling birds, milking maids, or pipers piping to live a better life, we are reminded of the abundance that pervades our lives.

Therefore, it dawned on me that much like Christmas, the arrival of DevOps is not much different when it comes to the abundance of the holidays. Compared to waterfall methodologies, DevOps offers the collaboration, innovation, and agility necessary to succeed and compete in a crowded marketplace.

Over the next few weeks as we run up to the holiday season, I want to share my passion for DevOps in all phases of the philosophy. It is my hope that you will understand the value as well. As today is day one:

“On the first day of Christmas, my IT guy gave to me, continuous innovation and sanity”

Continuous innovation is nice, and the availability of sanity is even nicer. As customers become more demanding in their technology needs, organizations can no longer afford to sit back and innovate on their own terms.

The rise of DevOps means that continuous innovation and the byproduct of sanity become top-of-mind, especially during heavy usage times like the holidays and product launches. Additionally, the implementation of DevOps also brings new tools and assets into the fold including those that encourage automation so organizations can focus on features and less so around managing bugs.

Sanity and continuous innovation under the Christmas tree? Has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it?
