I recently sat down with her to explore how she succeeds in providing this value on a daily basis. We discussed what she appreciates about Perficient, her customers, and her colleagues. I loved hearing about how Joy’s colleagues supported her when she published a children’s book, and I’m sure you will too.
Joy, thank you so much for joining me today. I’d love to kick off by hearing more about the everyday responsibilities associated with your role. What does a typical day of providing value to healthcare clients include?
I’ve been a strategic account director within Perficient’s healthcare practice for over eight years. In short, I see myself as a matchmaker. It’s my responsibility to understand our customer’s business objectives and match that up with the right mix of experts within Perficient to design and deliver solutions. I stay engaged through delivery at the account level to help make sure our team is supported and that the customer’s needs are met.
When our customers are successful, we’re successful, and that is a repeatable cycle.
Many of my accounts are with long-term customers that we have provided a variety of services to over the years. It’s fun to do quick-hit projects, but I really value and enjoy evolving with our customers as a partner. I feel like an extension of their business.
A typical day includes a nice mix of the following:
- Having conversations with customers and team members to scope new projects
- Preparing proposals and contracts
- Participating in delivery touchpoints to track and support progress
What are the things you value about working at Perficient?

What do you value about working with your customers and colleagues? How have they supported you in your professional and personal development?
I wanted to work at Perficient because of our customers! Over the last eight years, I’ve gotten to work with so many great leaders in healthcare. I’ve delivered meaningful solutions from customer-focused mobile apps and websites to customer relationship management and enterprise data solutions.
What keeps me at Perficient are the relationships I have with my customers and colleagues and the work that we do together.
My customers and my colleagues have supported me in many ways. I have great memories of reading books with my parents while growing up, and I carried on that tradition with my kids through nightly bedtime stories. This tradition inspired me to write my own children’s book.
I grew up as an Army brat, moving every few years. By the 10th grade, I had attended nine different schools across the U.S., Germany, and Turkey. I had to quickly learn how to adapt as the new kid. My book, “I’m Not in the Mooood,” is about a cow who moves to a new farm. It pays homage to the power of empathy as the other farm animals figure out how to best welcome her. Plus, you get to make fun animal sounds while reading it.
The best part of the experience was the photos I received from friends, family, customers, and my Perficient colleagues of their kids enjoying the book. Every time I got another photo from a Perficient colleague, it warmed my heart so much. We all spend so much time together. We care about the work we do, and we care about each other personally. At any given time, I’ll have a dozen active teams supporting customers.
After over eight years with Perficient, I could make a pretty long list of all the times I’ve seen colleagues step up to help each other inside and outside of work. It’s in our DNA.
