Perficient’s healthcare practice offers deep industry expertise to payers and providers. The healthcare team includes many experts who’ve gained this experience in the same professions as the clients we support. Kristina Kaufmann, senior business consultant, is one of these experts. I recently connected with her to discuss what it’s like to serve Perficient’s healthcare clients and how her background as a registered nurse impacts this service. I loved learning about how Perficient keeps their employees motivated by supporting their passions, and I’m sure you will too.
Thank you for joining me today, Kristina. I’d love to hear more about how your nursing background ties into the work we’re delivering for Perficient’s healthcare clients and how it ties into your day-to-day responsibilities.
I’m a senior business consultant on the healthcare team. I play a few different roles and consider myself a utility team player. However, clinical subject matter expertise and business analysis are my main responsibilities. Prior to joining Perficient, I was a registered nurse specializing in cardiology and internal medicine for over 14 years. I worked in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. I always saw technology as an opportunity to improve clinical workflows and patient care. It was perplexing to me that healthcare was so far behind the curve, so I pursued a master’s in health informatics.
My nursing background encompasses hands-on provider experience and reassures clients that I’m a credible resource when it comes to healthcare operations. I’m able to use my medical expertise to help enhance provider and operational workflows through virtual health solutions.
My typical day involves assisting other BUs, such as Perficient’s Microsoft and Appian teams, in creating potential healthcare solutions through pursuits, partnerships, and webinars. It also involves helping to grow and expand Perficient’s virtual health arena with director of healthcare strategy and digital health, David Allen. We accomplish this through enablement presentations and thought leadership. I also work on healthcare projects as a clinical business analyst for telehealth implementations and application development for clinician workflows.
What do you value most about working for our global digital consultancy and what keeps you motivated in your work?
I value the ability to provide insight into potential virtual health use cases and solutions. I enjoy being a part of a team that is in the process of curating virtual health opportunities for Perficient. I’m able to take advantage of my nursing background and utilize my clinical skills to drive pursuits, engagements, and healthcare partnerships with Microsoft and others.
Our healthcare team is comprised of smart and dedicated team players who have an abundance of healthcare experience, whether it be through digital health strategy, execution, or solutions. We come from many different backgrounds, but we all share the same goal and dedication to improving healthcare through technology.
Perficient provides opportunity for career growth. I’ve learned so much from being on a wide range of projects and working in a wide range of roles. These roles have varied from project management on an AI strategy engagement for a large healthcare payor and provider organization to development and implementation of virtual health solutions as a clinical business analyst. I’m able to learn something new every day and never get bored.

What initially drew you to Perficient? What keeps you here?
A friend informed me of an opportunity where Perficient needed someone with a nursing and informatics background. It ended up being the perfect fit, because the project required a nurse to map medical procedures, medications, labs, and radiology orders. It also required mapping results to standardized codes such as ICD-10.
I decided to stay with Perficient after this project ended, because it provided and continues to provide me with new opportunities and growth, both vertically and horizontally throughout the organization. When I’m excited and passionate about what I do and create, I’m at my best.
Perficient continues to support this passion. I would highly recommend people with a similar clinical background to join Perficient!
