Psl Daily Standup With Soledad Garcia

Knowledge resides within the team, problems are resolved as a team, and meeting a goal is everyone’s responsibility. And, I prefer it, because I don’t feel alone when facing an issue.

How long have you been at Perficient Latin America?

I’ve been at Perficient Latin America a little over a year; around a year and two months.

What are your biggest professional challenges?

There are several challenges, but if I had to pick the biggest one, I’d say it’s trusting myself and adapting to the culture at Perficient Latin America. Here, most tasks are self-driven, and you must be very disciplined, because the priority is the team and not the individual. Knowledge resides within the team, problems are resolved as a team, and meeting a goal is everyone’s responsibility. And, I prefer it, because I don’t feel alone when facing an issue. But, this requires I change my way of thinking—I need to remember that I can ask for help, and that help will be given.

What makes you feel excited about working at Perficient Latin America?

I feel like family here. I can show myself as I am, and Perficient Latin America is going to understand and help me improve. It’s like a family that includes you and helps you. That is beautiful. At other companies, I’ve felt like I need to prove myself through sales, through awards, by completing all deliverables, no matter the cost. At Perficient Latin America the project is not the most important thing, people are the most important. We’re not just thinking about achieving goals or fixing an application. Here, we prioritize supporting people who will then contribute to society. Perficient Latin America believes we can make a change, and I want to believe that.

What advice would you give to new Perficient Latin America employees?

Like in all companies, you’ll find two priorities: projects and people. But, here, people are the most important. So, if you want to improve yourself, and not just improve things but help people improve, and to contribute to technology and society, choose this company.

What’s the coolest, newest, most interesting thing you’ve recently learned?

I can think of two things. On one side, technology related: I used to hear a lot about blockchain and bitcoin. I had heard it was a big challenge, and now I’m excited because we get to work on it for programmatic advertising.

And, then, I’ve also recently learned to not let things get me down, but instead look for things I can do to solve it: act or ask for help. So, the mindset is more of “don’t complain, let’s find a solution.” You don’t win anything by complaining and reaching out for help to solve a problem is the correct approach. It sounds simple, but it can be difficult because sometimes you don’t believe you can do it. Ultimately, it’s okay to ask for help.

But, also, there’s the way you ask for help or express yourself. I’ve learned that when you think about the words that are coming out of your mouth, it’s not a matter of how you yourself would like to talk, but how the other person would like to be spoken to. And, then, it becomes an exercise in empathy; understanding other people and accepting them so that we can all feel heard and we can come to some sort of agreement.
