Our Perficient Minneapolis office celebrated its third annual Bike to Work Day in May. In addition to many of our colleagues biking to work, we also completed a 4-mile, easy-paced lunch ride along the Mississippi river. The ride was made possible by the growing network of Nice Ride bikes, Minneapolis’ public bike sharing system.
Our office building, located in Butler Square, provides amenities that make it more conducive to ride a bicycle to work. Inside, a newly remodeled bicycle room provides secure storage for bikes, a shower, and a variety of bike maintenance tools. Not to mention, it occasionally provides snacks.
Considering a Minnesota snowstorm in April brought almost 20 inches of snow, our colleagues were ecstatic to spend their lunch break biking in the sunny 90-degree weather. Additionally, the city of Minneapolis organized a series of pit stops, where cyclists were greeted with coffee, high fives, free food, and other giveaways as well.
Overall, this was a physically and environmentally rewarding experience that, based on this year’s feedback, is sure to be a longstanding tradition here in the Twin Cities.
Minneapolis is quickly becoming one of the most bike friendly cities in the nation, with more than 75 miles of bike lanes and trails in the metro area alone, as noted by Emma Nelson at The Star Tribune.
