With accelerated innovation top of mind for numerous organizations, the past few years have seen an influx of adoption in DevOps for automation, development, and collaboration. Much of this is response to competitive threats, requiring the quick addition of new code and services into applications.
Perficient partner CloudBees understands the value of DevOps and recently sought to understand its ubiquity in the market, surveying 150 IT decision makers across a variety of industries and company sizes.
Here were some of their takeaways:
- Most Purchase Enterprise Versions of Open Source Tools: More than 30% of respondents answered that they purchase enterprise versions of open source tools due to a need for predictable level of service not found in only relying on a support community. Others also desired a level of ease-of-use, led by visual coding and testing environments.
- Continuous Delivery is a Priority: Customer demands change quickly and organizations must respond, or face the prospect of an exodus. Of the 77% who have continuous delivery implemented in their organization, the vast majority stated they went that direction due to improve product quality as fast as possible or keep up with the competition. 44% of those surveyed also indicated significant improvements in their innovation strategy with continuous delivery in place.
- Continuous Delivery Tools Require Collaboration: Among the challenges to achieve continuous delivery in DevOps include being able to collaborate. Often times, the cause of such challenges stem from the use of disjointed and disparate tools, which create confusion throughout the organization. Standardized continuous delivery solutions alleviate the confusion by ensuring that all developers use the same technologies, reducing any innovative friction.
With these results in mind, it’s clear to us that DevOps and continuous delivery are a successful route for consideration. No doubt, many have seen the benefits as they compete within their industries.
