If you visit the Gloucester Police Department’s Facebook page, you’ll notice their posts from September 16th and 18th received thousands of likes, shares, and comments. That’s for good reason.

On September 16th, the department called out five pharma CEOs with the highest salaries and urged readers to contact them and ask what they’re doing to address the opioid epidemic taking place in the United States.

As background information, Gloucester, Massachusetts offers an innovative treatment program for drug abusers. Anyone can walk in for help without the fear of being charged.

Two days after the initial post, on September 18th, the chief of Gloucester PD reported that Pfizer had called and scheduled a meeting with them to discuss the crisis.

While pharma at large has a difficult time improving their reputation among the public, a willingness to talk about the important issues at hand can certainly help. More importantly, it will help enable people to receive treatment, ultimately reducing the cases of drug abuse.
