PillPack is a mind-bogglingly simple service, backed by top-notch investors, that makes you ask “Why didn’t I think of that?” It’s essentially an online pharmacy that breaks out your medications into daily doses and packets. The beauty of it is that there’s a time and date stamp on the packet to indicate when you should take them. So, if the little packet is empty, you’ve taken them. That’s it. There’s nothing else to it.
Why not just use a pill box? A couple of reasons. For one, you have to sort your pills (no time/date on them either) each week. Secondly, you still have to go pick up your medication from a pharmacy. With PillPack, they send you your presorted medication in the mail.
Signing up is easy and it doesn’t require human intervention, although it’s there if you want it. Simply fill out a few questions on PillPack’s intuitive website. In my case, I entered which pharmacy fills my prescription and they handled the transfer. Then, just wait for your pills to arrive in the mail.
While packing prescriptions inside little clear packets is PillPack’s bread-and-butter, they can also ship inhalers and creams, over-the-counter (OTC) medications, and vitamins.
PillPack may be viewed by many as an online pharmacy, but I think of it as a technology company. Like the Uber of pharmacies. Just like ordering an Uber car is quick and simple, ordering and managing prescriptions is as good as it gets. Overall, the digital experience is fantastic.
