The Perficient Hackers are returning to the softball field this fall after a two-year absence. Team member TL Stephanchick recently took some time from his busy schedule to sit down to talk about Hackers softball tradition.
Q: It’s been a few years since the team has taken the field. What do you think is going to be the strength of this team?
A: It’s no secret that defense wins slow pitch softball championships. We’ve studied quite a bit of game tape from the 1985 Chicago Bears and while football and softball are different sports we feel that with the elite athletes at our practice and a passion for defense we’ll keep our games low-scoring affairs.
Q: Does the team have a “defining moment”softball?
A: We still have the softball from the first game our team won; it’s in the lobby when you walk into our office.
Q: Successful teams are built on a nucleus of experienced players and young talent. There’s a lot of savvy veterans, but what about the upcoming talent?
A: We view campus recruiting as playing a big part in the future success of this team. We look for strong technical and interpersonal skills for all our current consultants but we haven’t ruled out a trip to the batting cage as a part of the interview process.
Q: There are some new uniforms for this years team. How did the vision for the logo come together?
A: One of the best parts of working for a large company is having access to such a surplus of talent. Tor Gunderson, who is a solutions architect in Perficient’s XD practice, designed our new logo. We may not have the best team in the league from a softball perspective but we’ll be the best dressed.
Q: Are there any post-game festivities?
A: Team members, spouses, and kids usually go to Taco Mac for a post-game outing. One of the great things about Taco Mac is that even if the game is rained out they are still open.
Q: Speaking of rain outs what is the team’s record so far this year?
A: Our first few contests have been rained out so we are still riding our undefeated streak into mid September.
