Oracle Goes After Documentum

No, Oracle is not buying Documentum as far as I know.  However, Oracle is feeling comfortable enough with their WebCenter suite of products to make a push to replace Documentum with WebCenter.

For the last few days, Oracle WebCenter bloggers have been posting articles challenging companies to move off Documentum and replace it with WebCenter.  Oracle promotes the following two reasons, among others, to dump Documentum:

  • Oracle sees Documentum as ‘old school’ while WebCenter is the new innovative product for Enterprise Content Management.
  • Oracle claims that WebCenter will save money over Documentum

To further tell their story, Oracle has scheduled a webinar for October 26 called Stop Maintaining Documentum and Start Innovating with Oracle WebCenter.

It is interesting to me to see how aggressive Oracle is becoming with WebCenter.  From integrating recent acquisition FatWire into WebCenter to publicly going after Documentum, Oracle is showing that it is going to be a serious contender in the whole Portal, Collaboration, Content, and Social marketplace.
