Social Business Governance

The way we do business is changing – whether we want to admit it.  Enterprises are looking for ways to gain more productivity, harness employee knowledge, empower employees and all to drive more profit to the bottom line while maintaining excellent work experiences.  But with this paradigm shift comes needs for tools.  These tools, Social Business Software (SBS) often, are culture shifting.

As more companies adopt SBS more questions come up about:

  1. Will my employees spend all day being “social”?
  2. What if someone says something inappropriate?
  3. How do engage social activities without violating union or federal mandates for my company?
  4. How do you monitor this?
  5. How do I break down silos while maintaining security and other standards?

Today, usually, the answer to these questions are already dealt with in current policies but may not be specifically directed at a planned SBS enablement.  As leadership or other drivers push for better and more effective ways to communicate across business governance will and should be a big topic.

A great place to start is your current policies and governance.  They often will help you document social business governance gaps.  There are also good examples likely posted at peer companies that have already enabled a social workforce.  Some good examples I have found are:

The Portal and Collaboration Team will be discussing this more as time progresses and would love to hear your thoughts, directions, and comments.
