Mobile Processing Power vs Older Systems

While presenting on portal 101, I touched on mobile portals and made the comparison of that phone in your pocket being more powerful than desktops from not that long ago.   That comment got me to thinking about just how well they compare.  I found an article at tech autos about smart phone processors that has some nice comparisons.  From the article:

Note how the video processing of several phones outperforms gaming systems from not that long ago.  I’m amazed at the possibilities of a device that has the following characteristics:

  1. Always connected via multiple vendors networks
  2. Fast connections via wireless in many locations
  3. GPS and a variety of other sensors to enable many capabilities
  4. The processing power of the desktop computers of not that long ago

You put that all together and there is so much you can do at a small fraction of the cost of specialized mobile systems for utilities and other workforces.
