Editing Local Files with SPD 2010

Here is a quick blog about a change in SharePoint Designer 2010 (from 2007) and a work-around that you might like to know about.
If you used SharePoint 2007 for editing SharePoint sites and local files, and now use SharePoint Designer 2010, you will find that the new version does not allow you to edit local files. When you try to open a local file it will inform you that you must first open a site before editing external Web pages. For this reason you would need to find another editor that will allow you to edit local files. Maybe Expression Web? Maybe Notepad++.
Here is the work-around:

Once you have opened a site, you can then open and edit local files.

Of course, if you don’t have a site that you can open, then you can’t open your local file.
