Implementation Is The Easy Part

While assisting an organization in deciding if they should obtain a Business Intelligence solution; which vendor is most adequate to suit their needs and actually implementing the system may seem like the hard part, in many cases, it turns out to be the easy part. In my experience, the hardest part lies in the adoption and “buy-in” of the solution to those within the organization. Many times it has been the employee’s sole purpose to manually compile information from a variety of sources and make that information accessible to management or the executive team in a user-friendly, customizable format. Employees with such a role often feel threatened by a technological BI solution that will automate all of the hard work they are accustomed to performing. This leaves them contemplating “what will I do now?” and they internalize threat to their very employment. The key to calm these fears is to make the employee aware of how this system will also benefit them. They will no longer be required to perform mundane and time consuming tasks. Instead they will have the ability to take on an analyst role or other valuable position internally. With Microsoft’s suite of BI tools and integration with Office and SharePoint, it is easier now more than ever to assist the analyst with discovering trends and changes in the business before management is aware or even requests this information. The end result is a much more efficient business model, higher sense of purpose and morale with employees, and management having timely access to the information they need to effectively run their business.
