Realizing ROI with Reporting Services subscriptions

While working for a global executive search firm during the height of the US credit and housing crisis, the SVP – US Finance became anxious as the firm was having an unusually difficult time collecting past due invoices from clients. This data was a key component of their financial Business Intelligence system and readily available to Accounts Receivable (AR) Managers throughout the world on their personal Dashboard page. However, they were either not using the Dashboard for this information or simply not aware of how much AR was past due.
With Reporting Services out of the box subscription functionality, we almost effortlessly implemented a Reporting Services subscription model based on the AR Report already being used in the Accounting Dashboard. Every Friday morning, an email was generated and sent to each AR Manager alerting them of how much AR was due, how past due it was, the client contact and the contact information. Within four weeks, the past due AR had decreased by 37%.
It is amazing how minor changes to the technology and information already available to you positively impacts the business in such a dramatic way once you thoroughly understand the business needs. This is one of the many real world examples I have encountered where ROI on Business Intelligence is a concrete, measureable number.
