3 iPaaS Considerations for Your IT Ecosystem

Even with a flurry of new technologies attracting technology investment, there is still value in legacy applications, particularly in the realm of security and data.

Integration has even made its way into the mainstream, attracting interest from research firm Forrester, dubbed as Integration Platform as a Service (iPaaS). Forrester defines iPaaS as:

A suite of cloud services enabling development, execution and governance of integration flows connecting any combination of on premises and cloud-based processes, services, applications and data within individual or across multiple organizations.

Research firm Markets and Markets further corroborates the growth of iPaaS solutions, indicating that the market will grow 41.5% between 2016 and 2021. It goes without saying that data, security, and connectivity strategies will become top-of-market as we head into the late stages of this decade.

However, with that said, how do you know your organization is a fit for an iPaaS solution, particularly in your IT ecosystem and infrastructure? In this edition of our series, we explore a few areas of consideration for iPaaS adopters.

  • Consideration #1: Connectivity Extends Assets – The emergence of social networking applications and mobile platforms have created the opportunity for connectivity, with many websites these days offering single-sign on. Furthermore, many technologies also pull information from these applications, allowing businesses to connect and have a deeper understanding of their customer base. iPaaS enables connectivity by serving as the unifying point between on-premise and cloud applications without having to use middleware or hardware. Furthermore, organizations that also integrate iPaaS also extend the life of legacy hardware and push the need to upgrade down the line.
  • Consideration #2: Adopt Hybrid Cloud – According to RightScale’s 2017 State of the Cloud Survey, Hybrid Cloud is still the preferred enterprise strategy. The good news is that iPaaS falls square in the middle, allowing for private and public cloud deployments, which means that end-users can experience the best of everything modern technology has to offer, while saving money, remaining agile, and innovating towards the future. With other research firms including IDC and Gartner identifying cloud as the technology to explore now, there’s no reason for IT leaders to look ahead further and see what is available with iPaaS.
  • Consideration #3: Security is at the Center – Finally, iPaaS addresses the importance of security in the enterprise. With so much data being created on-premises and off, organizations need to prioritize where they place critical information. With the cost of data breaches increasing each year and bringing unprepared organizations their knees, technology leaders need to take the reigns and protect both customers and employees at all costs.
