Microsoft Increases Healthcare Footprint with Sentillion Acquisition

by Liza Sisler on December 11th, 2009

Yesterday Microsoft announced it’s acquisition of Sentillion. Sentillion provides identity and access management technology to over 1000 hospitals including single sign-on solutions. This acquisition nicely complements Microsoft’s existing healthcare specific applications HealthVault (Personal Health Record application platform) and the Amalga suite of products (allowing data access and aggregatation of disparate systems). As such Microsoft continues its investment in its Health Solutions Group and the healthcare space as a whole.  Will continued investment by traditional IT vendors such as Microsoft, IBM and Oracle in their Health Solutions offerings drive down Health IT costs? As healthcare providers start to understand the value, ease of use, potential lower total cost of ownership and increased number of resources available to implement and support solutions offered by these traditional IT vendors over healthcare specific vendors will we start to see increased adoption? What do you think?
