Making internal collaboration work: Interview with Don Tapscott

I always love to hear Don Tapscott speak. He’s the author of Wikinomics and Radical Openness. McKinsey recently interviewed him and he has a number of quotable gems so it’s worth a viewing.I can summarize his approach as pragmatic.  Don’s not afraid to advocate for things like the sunsetting of email or why knowledge management usually fails.

“Knowledge management has failed,” says University of Toronto professor Don Tapscott in the video interview “Making internal collaboration work.” The problem, he believes, is that executives think corporate knowledge is a finite asset that can be confined within a “container.” They are wrong: “The most important knowledge is not inside the boundaries of a company. You don’t achieve it through containerization, you achieve it through collaboration.”
