Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) on Microsoft Azure Cloud

It is common for organizations to consolidate on a single Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) platform, and Microsoft Azure’s strong play in creating hybrid Windows cloud environments makes it a logical choice for many IT departments. Based on Hyper-V, Microsoft’s long-proven native virtualization platform, the Azure platform offerings have grown considerably over the last few years.
Adobe Experience Manager runs within a Java Virtual Machine, and deployments on both RedHat Enterprise Linux and its community counterpart, CentOS are supported operating systems. As these are the OSes we most commonly see for AEM deployments, I will use RHEL and CentOS as examples.  Good news.  For organizations on Azure, deploying RHEL or CentOS is quite commonplace.
So why not AEM on Azure? Yes, why not?
Azure fully supports deploying these operating systems, and I personally have been doing it on Hyper-V since its introduction in 2008. Since the Adobe/Azure announcement back in September, 2016, we at Perficient have been deploying proof-of-concept topologies of AEM on Azure.

But deploying AEM on a cloud platform is about far more than just the underlying OS. It’s about a feature-rich platform that scales, and automation to reduce administrative overhead. In future blog posts, we’ll show how Azure can help automate common infrastructure tasks like AEM instance deployment, backup and patching.
Hello, AEM. Welcome to Azure!
